Renault 11 Turbo Phase 2 Restoration

PHEW….!!! I’ve been wondering if I should have dashed to IKEA and bought a load of BELLÉND mirrors to put under my car, but just can’t be arsed..!

There’s a dedicated FORD hall here, and there’s nearly more mirrors than cars..!? 🤣
One of my clients in the Ford hall is there… he needs mirrors under his car…. Will distract from the rust and lacquer peel on the roof 😅

I remember an XR2 there , with the same wheel stands as that Escort, discs had surface grinding on them, as new, never been used.
Suppose it's up to individuals, whatever floats your boat, but that concours lark to that extent isn't my bag, and I can't think what would motivate people to go to the extent they do.
We're all different.....
11 looks the business, congratulations, it's a beaut.

Daft question here @Big Steve - Raider but how to you get an invite?
A) You need to have won a concours event that they sponsor throughout the year, and then you can get an invite to be on their stand. Typically BMW, Mercedes. Ferrari etc.

OR

B ) You have won another concours event and apply to Meguiars to see if your car peaks their interest and is different enough to be on their stand.

I was a firm B and Tommy is a Fellow Renault owner (Owns the Phat 5 GTT Dimma) so knows a few Renaults

Well that’s it…. Back home this evening after a crazy weekend in Birmingham for the NEC Classic Car Show.

Was a great weekend and @Millie_Bee and I packed loads into the days there and really made a celebration of the whole event.

I wasn’t lucky enough to walk away with the winners medal today, but I feel super proud of what I have achieved, and delighted that my little Renault 11 can share the same space on a stand with a Ferrari and Jaguar worth hundreds of thousands of pounds!!

FYI, the winner was a “brand new” Triumph which scored the highest points ever recorded in a Concours competition at the NEC! To give you all a little context here, the tyres were literally BRAND NEW and you could see all the little spikes all over them from the moulding process!!!

During the awards process, I was asked if I would be willing to be interviewed by Mike Brewer from Wheeler Dealers about my car, as he was presenting the prizes:

At this point I would just like to take time out to pay special thanks to my best man and best mate Jez aka @jas_racing who is always willing to come over and help me with the work I do on my cars, and has been invaluable moral support through the 9 years it took me to bloody rebuild this car…! I got a nice photo of us together today at the show, but f*** knows what’s going on with his shoe.!? 🤡 🤣🤣🤣

Following the interview, I was awarded my prizes for attending by Mike:

And then it was time to pack up and shoot for home! The car started fine and I drove it out to my transporter for the journey home….. wasn’t entirely uneventful tho… the temp gauge was shooting up to the Red just during a traffic filled drive round the NEC… so @Chris Smith you see there’s still work to be done:

Regardless I got home ok this evening, and put the car back in the garage at the end of a hectic weekend.

Thank you all for your support, patience, motivation and input during the last 9 years…. It’s been emotional.

So because I had two cars at home and only one garage (then) the Silver 11 had to live on the front garden (which didn't please Millie up too much) so I needed to get cracking on breaking down the Red 11 and getting rid of the bodyshell. Thankfully my parents offered me the use of their drive for a couple of months to give me some breathing space so the breaking began!! I'll let the pictures do the talking...

Any idea where I can get a pair of sill for the r11

Thank you for replying. R11 sills that need welding on.
Hmmm, you’re going to struggle there sir. Turkey would be your best bet, as you should be able to get hold of R9 sills which would be close enough shape.

A quick google shows that you will need to be searching for marspiyel saci renault 11 which throws up some options:

But getting someone in Turkey to ship to UK is the real challenge. @DaveL485 and I have tried with various people and 💩 out of luck..

If nothing else, it will help you get OE Part Numbers which can help your search and possibly find something in Western Europe??

Oh great 😩 let me find someone and will get back to you and really so appreciate the help here as it’s for a friend and he’s not good with computers or sourcing parts so I thought I’d help him out 😇

Klokkerholm had some R9 & 11 sills in stock about 3 years ago as I picked up a pair for my R9. I bought them through Car Body Panels | WiperBlades | Classiccarz2

I think these would be the same as a R11 5 door but not 3 door. I dont know if they had any 3 door panels but worth asking.

Pulled the old girl out of her winter outdoor Carcoon tonight:

Super chuffed with how the car looks, and dare I say, it actually looks better for being in the Carcoon than it does a garage for the winter. Was clean when I put it away, and it was just as clean and minty again when I took it out tonight.

Winter has not given the elves the opportunity to fix the running issues though… the bloody car still bleaches out black smoke… 😤

Been messaging @Brigsy this evening for some tips on trying to get to the bottom of this mess… got a lot of ideas to go at!!

Will report back.
