Great day today with the support of @jas_racing we started the final show prep for the NEC Classic Car Show 2022 next weekend!

First step was to clean all the arches and wheels:

Then we rolled it into the garage to start the main machine polishing on the roof and bonnet:


Whilst Jez was getting stuck into that, I was going through the engine bay:

And made a start on the interior (Quick before/after of the rubber mats)

The photos don’t really show just how well this old turd is shining now… looks bloody AMAZING!!

Yes @Chris Smith we sure did, these products, in this order:

Meguiar’s Ultimate Liquid Wax, then Showcar Glaze, then finished off with some Grand Finale Sealer.


She’s REALLY looking ‘wet’ now:


Just the interior and glass to finish off this week.

What a feck around with that spark plug, when you tapped it out did you use a bottom out tap or only the taper one pictured? If you didnt use the bottom out tap that'll be why it went tight.

They are a sort of 2 size tap that grabs onto what's left and then makes it cut a bigger hole/ thread. I would suggest that after the first go, you clean everything up and go again.
This is a useful repair technique from the RAF school of kerbside motors. I once got a 5 GT Turbo very cheap as the water fitting had snapped off in the inlet manifold. I started about M6 then worked up in 1 mm increments (taper taps only) until by M12 I had a clean thread in clean Ally. It was easy to make a fitting on the lathe and Robert's your Father's Brother as they say. @Big Steve - Raider If the head has to come off for any reason. Get it fixed as that may not hold up too well in the long run. Bummer...

The bottom out tap was M14, the stepped tap was to take it to M16, there wasn’t an M16 bottom out tap to chase the threads and clean them out to M16 for sure.. if I did it again, I would get myself a full complement of taps and dies to ensure I could check everything

Insert taps tend to be strange pitches. Usually only come with the set and they are usually full form. It's a learning experience finding out how tight is too tight.....

Last minute preparations continue tonight for the NEC Classic Car show THIS WEEKEND!!

Taking the car tomorrow, and will be accepted to put it on the stand between 14:00 and 16:00.

That looks awesome! what stand will your 11 Turbo be on? I'll be sure to have a good look!

The car will be on the Meguiar’s Club Showcase 2022 which is one of the Main stands of the event and by being on the stand, I’m also entered into the chance of winning their Car of the Show which will be picked from the cars on their stand. This will indeed be a day of reckoning for the old 11T as I have no doubt, there will be cars there which will blow mine into a cocked hat… but it’s the taking part that’s the fun, not the winning!!

So of course, you’d think I’m all ready to go eh…?

WRONG!! I was out there this evening painting the underside of the parcel shelf:



Whilst putting the finishing touches to a photo build (bullsh1t) board to display on the rear parcel shelf:

You can see I’m working hard to be Representing TurboRenault!!

Will update you all on getting the car to the NEC tomorrow!! Let’s hope the goons from Extinction Rebellion aren’t planning to close the M6 tomorrow…..

MADE IT!!!!

Car transporter collected, and I got it on by 12:00

Stopped off at Rugby Services en route for a spot of lunch:

Then arrived at the NEC Bob on 14:00

Was east as unloading the car and getting it onto the stand:

As you can imagine, there’s a LOT of work still going on, to set up the show:

But she looks at home on the stand and is doing me proud…. Finally….

PHEW….!!! I’ve been wondering if I should have dashed to IKEA and bought a load of BELLÉND mirrors to put under my car, but just can’t be arsed..!

There’s a dedicated FORD hall here, and there’s nearly more mirrors than cars..!?
