Renault 11 Turbo Phase 2 Restoration

Following a chat with @Chris74# at Donnington Park on Sunday, I thought I’d just post a pic of my garage in full, showing my 5GTT Raider tucked away on the left side of the garage:

Tonight I continued putting the interior back in. Boot panel tonight.

Dug out the old one, and a nice shiny new one I bought:

Covers all the tail-light wiring up a treat:

Seriously running out of time now, for what I want to get done this month!!
😬

Love it Steve! Loving the Raider, when I grow up I want a Raider!😂

New bulbs arrived!!

So it’s just a matter of fitting them, and plugging them in…. WRONG!! One of the wires to the plug within the light unit, was MILES too short, so had to cut it:
4C10C048-0471-4D34-9603-0375364EA653.webp
And then solder in a length of wire to extend the loom:
F1620E1E-10D2-48C2-8E68-2B734F08E670.webp
Once fitted, I now had all lights working:
C795B53E-5887-4BEB-B1B0-F06DCF559781.webp
Decided now was the time to properly finish off the front of the car with the grille badge. The new grille I had first needed to be drilled out:

Then it was time to fit the new badge I had tucked away in the parts box:

SNAG LIST DAY

Great day in the garage today with @jas_racing working thru a snag list I’d created over recent weeks of stuff that either wasn’t working, or I wondered if it did work..?
02E80316-9761-48D9-B188-8345E43E2467.jpeg
  • Drained the running-in oil
  • Refilled with some fresh elf 10w-40 oil and new filter
  • Fit the exhaust clamps
  • Fit the connections to the fog lights
2A233BD9-EC6A-43D6-8649-7B141A06CBCF.jpeg
  • Changed the coolant temp sensor
  • Found the relay was faulty on the horn circuit
  • Found the terminals in the fan connector had become dislodged, so that’s why the engine fan wasn’t running
It was then finally time to bring the bonnet down from the spare room in the house, where it’s been sitting for AGES!!!
B6633754-E06C-4595-B493-B54809EF8F17.jpeg
And fit it to the car:

With the bonnet finally on, we had to do a fair amount of fiddling to get it somewhere right, by spacing out the drivers side headlight a tad. The we fit some of the bonnet furniture, but there’s more stuff to go.

Next we pulled the car out the garage, and turned it round:
E6BDF75A-2DB9-4C42-9388-40833BBC5816.jpeg
  • Rear spoiler on
  • Figured out a couple of snags with the rear lights
  • Changed the fuel level sensor within the tank
  • Fit the rear qtr moulding that hold the parcel shelf

🤣🤣🤣 Totally understandable Stu. No ankle biters is the simple answer I think..? 🤔

😆 Funny I’ve had a few people ask If I fancied doing something for their cars…!?? Thing is, I don’t do it for the money, I do it for the love of creating something beautiful…

With 5 cars, there’s always something to get done..! Next on the list is fit the new re-built gearbox to the Clio 182 Cup as that’s got a synchro crunch between 4th & 5th. And then finish off getting the Clio Raider for a euro Jolly/Nurburgring Track-day in June/July this year.. plenty still to do!!

Long term, I may look to give the old 5 Raider a refresh also as it’s getting a little dirty for my liking..

Up & at-em again early doors this morning to Nip down to the tip first and drop off a load of old junk I didn’t want anymore. Before stopping by the council lock-up to check over my original bonnet, the way the screen-wash hoses are routed:
916447C9-B2B9-426B-9228-AA65204B8F97.webp
Back home, we then got cracking to fit the new bonnet stay and all associated bracketry, which means I can now safety stand my bonnet up:
19B7BBD7-7FD1-4BDC-A000-358A9F36B3B9.webp

With the bonnet on, we fitted the new scuttle panel plastics, and battery cover:

F6C723C3-A640-4B79-AEC7-983B57FFEDF1.webp
Before I finally re-fitted the VIN and COLOUR tags onto the body shell, I’d removed many years ago, to ensure they didn’t dissolve in the sheep-dip 🐑:
C907527F-AC51-4643-9A3D-F020D7854D41.webp

We then re-fitted the screen wash hosing, together with new nozzles to the bonnet.

Attention then turned to the rear of the car, where we fitted new badge retaining clips:
349D42DA-172E-448A-8BA9-306CE83F4FC2.webp

Before a very proud moment, we fitted the badges back on!!!

Chuffed to bits with the final result:

Last thing was to give the interior a vacuum out:
9782CED7-656C-435B-876B-16A14FD0AA4F.webp

Before having a look how the freshly re-trimmed rear seats look, against the bright red belts I chose:

Still quite a lot of little faffy jobs left to do, but we’re in a good position for the French Car Show at Santa-Pod in a couple of weeks

😱

Mine was only 4 years old damage repairable . Got it back from paint Friday night . Rolling shell , drove it home Sunday on trade plates mot ed Monday in 1992
Memories are coming back that I won’t share but those front seats are good .

Try and get up to see it at the pod but a proper piss up the night before so see how the head is

Convinced my darling wife @Millie_Bee to pop into the garage for a quick inspection. You’ll be pleased to know, the car passed her exacting standards!

First job this evening, was to sand and prep the wiper blades for paint. Then give them a quick washing line spray job of satin black:
5DC9E935-FEE7-408D-B956-C5418EC087F1.jpeg
Then I dug out the centre bracket to fasten between the rear seats:
4BB0E2AF-B0F3-47B7-902B-0EAE351B05B9.jpeg
Rear seats then properly fixed in, and rear seat folding mechanism knobs fitted.

I then dredged the rear carpet up from the bottom of the North Sea and dropped it into the boot to see how it looked:

NO NO NO NO!!! That’s NEVER going to do!! 🤮👎🤕

So I’ve ordered a new section of carpet to cut and replace that sad little effort, ready for the Le French Fest.

Dropped the best of the two parcel shelves I had into the car, and it will pass for the mean time, before I get it re-covered:

TurboRenault and supplying dealer window decals to go on soon….
