Removing the collector box on the standard exhaust.

I was just wondering if anybody has removed the collector box on their v6 but still has the standard backbox on? If so what does it sound like?

Not heard it on the standard exhaust, but you would get a decent weight saving taking it off!

There is a cheap one on ebay with you could do it if you dont want to cut up your standard example: LINK

I seen that on ebay last night, i have a ph1 though, would a ph2 collector box fit? Or is it just the downpipes that are a different fitting between the ph1 & 2?

I really want a spike exhaust after hearing simons, but again im told they only fit a ph2? So i thought i could do this mod for hopefully abit more (cheap) noise.

Does anybody have any pictures of a ph1 exhaust setup off the car?

Thanks

Phase 2 collector won't fit a phase 1. Different bolt spacings and one has 4 bolts the other has 2. You might get it to fit by enlarging the bolt holes though.

Why not just get an exhaust place to delete your collector with 2 pipes that join?

The Spike exhaust is the Janspeed in phase 2 fitment. The standard Janspeed fits the phase 1.

Alternative cheap noise idea ive seen before:

I removed the cats from the collector box on my ph1 with QS back box and it made next to zero difference. I had to remove the cats in the down pipes to gain an utter shite load of noise and performance which I wouldnt advise unless your happy with it as a toy.
Might be worth gutting the collector and enlarging the standard tips of the OEM part.

I thought as much the ph2 collector wouldnt fit the ph1, ill see how much the local custom exhaust place will make me a collector delete pipe.

Does the Janspeed for the ph1 sound the same as the Janspeed/spike for the ph2?

Thanks for the info/input lads.

Its all very subjective and people tastes vary some what. My personal favorite off the shelf setup, regardless of cost, is the original full janspeed setup with better tailpipes. However, for the lack of work involved you wont go wrong with spikes variant.

If the janspeed system for the ph1 sounds the same as the spike system for the ph2 ill buy one of those. I still might try deleting the collector box.

Apologies. Honestly went to buy two wing and went away with the lot! Most parts are now provisionally sold, but will keep peeps informed.
