5 GT Turbo Removing liners with engine on the car - advise needed

Hi,

I found a water leak from the liner seal on cylinder number 2, I would like to remove the liner with the piston inside and replace the o ring seal, is it possible? Any other advise?

Pictures of the leaking seal attached.
TIA

I think you can do it with a cut down piston ring compressor, it's been done on a 21 Turbo for sure so I don't see why it couldnt be done on a 5. As long as you can get a ring compressor under the liner and then slide it out after it should work.

Head & sump off job to remove
Sump removed already to replace the oil pump, then I found this.

Head will be removed to be replaced with a new head, I was thinking on un bolt the pistons connecting rods from the crankshaft and then use a wood to knock the liner out (with the head removed), is it possible?

I guess on this method I must remove the cranckshaft, correct?

No problem to pop the liner with piston, just make sure that you put a mark on the piston so that it goes back in the right way round! Check the seal areas for corrosion! If there is pitting you can repair using materials such as Belzona 1111. Make sure also that you have the correct coolant in as these engines are prone to corrosion due to the mismatch of materials, a quality inhibitor is essential in the coolant and should be changed regularly as it depletes.
