Cracking on - great progress. Not tempted to replace the fuel pump? Do you know its age/history? APS do an OE replacement for very little money, I just got one. I had a couple of big APS pumps on the 21 for the last few years of use and they were bang on for the money.

Thinking about your suggestion on the fuel pump, am I best to replace the fuel pressure regulator also? I have the fuel pump on watch on ebay

On another note, do you know where I can get my hands on some plastic clips for the fuel and brake lines? Mine are knackered!

Bit of an update!
I got the heat shield all cleaned up and got some etch primer and VHT silver paint on it. I also nicked the black trim off the shield on the campus and gave it a good clean up!
I got the fuel filter fixing plate rear section and gave a clean and a dip in the zinc tank along with some of the other brackets!
I ended up ordering a new front support plate as mine was rusted through and I forgot that there was one on the campus! Oh well another spare for future endeavours!
I got the new filter and original pump mounted back on the plate just for a look!
I bought some large diameter rivets to fix the heat shield on to the fuel tank, but when I came to use them my riveter was unable to handle the girth of the rivets mandrel (ah thank you!). I ended up digging out some stainless steel button heads and M6 nuts, I think they actually look better than the rivets!
I then set about getting the fuel system back on the car! Firstly I had to get the car on a jack on a stool to remove the strap coming from the roll over jig as it was blocking the pipe route for the fuel lines! It then took me all day to remember how it went back on and where the fuel lines route, but got there in the end! still looking for the breather pipe T-piece so will have to drop the auxiliary tank when I finally find one!
This is the broken breather T-Piece!! I replaced all of the jubilee clips with shiny new stainless ones and all new stainless bolts on the fuel tank!
I might get the Dremel and cut the overrun of the jubilee clip back a bit!
I was very relieved when this married up correctly as I was sure I had welded the bracket back in the wrong position!
Repaired aux tank strap looking good, That colour is Land Rover Stornoway Grey, it looks pretty damn close to Tungsten Grey! Mind you I am colour blind!!
I decided to get the fuel lines and pressure regulator out to see how it all goes together and to see what bits are missing!! I am in desperate need of the black plastic clips for the fuel and brake pipes. If anybody has any they are willing to sell, please let me know!

The wife nipped out last Friday, when she came back I had tried to sneak this one past her! The newest member of the rust family!
This is going to be the pick-up!!!! Its got some rust issues, but after what I have been through on the GTT, I'm not phased!
I also found this!
I saw one of these bed covers on ebay a few months ago! I might scan this and save it on to the resources section on the forum.

The wife has commented that every time she looks out of the lounge window all she can see is Broadway Garage!!!

Hi Guys, Its been a while since I posted anything, Things have slowed down a bit on the 5, due to work and life in general! I have been chipping away at it though, mainly cleaning brackets, nuts & bolts and finally finished getting the fuel system back on to the car. I struggled to find the plastic T-connector but got one in the end, had to grind it down a bit to get it to fit, but got there in the end!
I managed to get the rear beam back on and used the old discs for now, just to get the car back on its wheels!
I also got the front sub-frame back on!
I also had a go at zinc plating the rear calliper carriers!
I put the door back on with a bungee, mainly to get it up off the floor, I will fit the other door and tailgate over the weekend.
I also stripped the gearbox and set up a caustic bath to try and get it clean!
I got the caustic soda from B&Q about £6.50. I dropped the casing in and it soon started reacting.
It god rid of the grease and junk quite easily, but it left a black residue which was a pain to wire brush off! I got the casing in the sand blaster and gave it a blast! my blaster was playing up so I switched the media to glass bead! still no good. I took the casings to a local vapour blaster, just waiting for them to call! I continued cleaning and blasting brackets.
I went and bought new aluminium oxide media and got it in there. I checked all of the connections and the sand trap to make sure its not blocked, I then checked the gun and realised I had got the wrong nozzle on there! I changed the nozzle to a smaller one and bingo! it started blasting properly
I re-fitted the steering column so I can move the car around easily.
Does anyone have any recommendations for a bodyshop? and any idea on costs for a paint job?

Mine is costing me £6,500+vat. That's just for a exterior paint, no engine bay or interior. But show finish
Welcome to hell…. Finding good body shops makes mission impossible seem like a walk in the park these days.
I got burnt by one BIG time..
I’d recommend you try & find one that comes thru a recommendation..
@DaveL485 seems to have found a little guy that does great work.

I've got a local place thats pretty good so far but I haven't taken him any BIG jobs yet. It's a small shop that specialises in panel repairs though he has just done a full paint job on an NSK that looked really nice.
@rustedandrotten hooked me up with a place in Aberdeen for the V6 called Gray & Adams, yes I know, Aberdeen, it's 450 miles from me each way but they did a phenomenal job, the car was gone less than 3 months and the price was very reasonable. Give him a shout if you can be hacked with transporting it there. I would do it again for a full paint job.

So, been thinking about it and going to prep the car for paint myself (or at leats have a go at it). I have wire brushed all the weld thru primer off the shell and brushed out the filler that I had started. I got the car out of the garage while I had a bit of a clean up!!
I then got the car back in the garage and began the laborious task of wire brushing the shell!!
Two days solid on the wire brush! my hands are killing me!! But onwards and upwards! It started to mask the car off ready for the epoxy primer!
I masked down to the floor as I don't want to get overspray on the finished underneath of the car!
Gonna finish the masking up tomorrow, give the place a vac and clean down, and hopefully get the first coat of epoxy on!!

Gents @Mark_L & @clarky_gtt thanks for taking the time to read and comment! I read your comments and did a bit of inter web research before continuing! As a result, I ended up going out there this morning with my 80 grit and gave the whole thing a rub down! Mark, thanks for the heads up, you have saved me a load of aggro! With regards to the repairs, I have completed all of the welded repairs on the shell now and I have been watching a guy on You tube "Trevs Blog" who said to apply epoxy first, as your barrier layer, then build on top of that with filler and high build primer, after a rub with some 320 grit paper! I also checked with Rust.co.uk where I got the gear from and their advice is the same! Hopefully i'm back on the right track!
I then got the panel wipe out and gave it a good wipe down, then went over it again with a clean cloth!
I then got to mixing the epoxy up!
Then on with the first coat!
I then let that flash off for an hour or so while I went and had some lunch!
Then on to the 2nd and third coat!
I peeled the tape off wherever it came into direct contact with the epoxy!
Well it looks like i got it pretty even across the car! I'll leave it to sit now until tomorrow, the garage has a heater on and is sitting at around 22C so should be nice and toasty in there!!

Yeah epoxy is a great sealer to bare metal. Just a bit of a backwards step when it comes to repairs. But its now sealed

Yeah, I had started filling but then realised I was doing it wrong so I wire brushed all the filler out! A bit of a bitch really, wasted hours filling and sanding, but at least it’s right now: Ive got some seam seal to apply around the tailgate and then refill and sand. Then I’ll give it another coat of epoxy before moving on to the HB primer.! Yours is looking really smart now!
