5 GT Turbo R5 coilovers??

I’ve been thinking about refreshing my coilovers over winter. I’ve got a R5 campus with a 172 conversion, been running GAZ gha’s and 250lbs springs and it’s pretty bouncy sometimes no matter what damping setting I use. I’ve ran 400lbs springs and it was way too hard for fast road which I mainly use it for.

Anyone recommend any other coilovers?? I can’t fault GAZ coilovers but I just think that there’s abit too harsh to sometimes.

Also, I don’t post very much on here but I will do soon… going for mapping next month to have the jenveys set up.

Im running 350lb springs on my leda coilovers with c1j and its really compliant on the road with damping set to fully soft and the handling is excellent, assume this is down to the valving being really good. However they are really short so only suited to lowered on 13" wheels, as hardly any droop.

On the other hand my old avo gtz on 300lb springs was nowhere near as good and i think spent most of the time almost bottomed out on stock top mounts as shafts were too long for my application.

From experience the normal gaz can be quite crashy. The gaz gold are supposed to be far better but not tried them myself.

First of all, id check that the coilovers are not bottoming out, springs going coilbound especially with the heavier engine. As the shocker is fixed length in the body you ideally need 2/3 damper travel left with the car at your required rideheight, and 1/3 left for droop i.e. when jacked up. This might not give you the correct rideheight but the suspension will be in the working range.

What top mounts are you using? I use compbrake which gives more damper travel compared to stock top mounts.

If your feeling flush, id prob go for a custom set of Ast front legs. Get cooksport to measure up.

I had a quick chat with Tony hart when I bought a gtt subframe off him and he also mentioned leda’s but I’ve not heard anyone else mention them since. I’ll check the travel but gaz recommended my spring rate and coil height so I “assumed” this would correct. I’m using standard top mounts as they were in good condition when I bought the car as it had only had 27k on the clock. Are the compbrakes a direct fit??
 
You might need a custom spacer to fit the compbrake top mounts. Ive seen the gaz bottom out a few times on stock top mounts, id be checking all the vital measurements as if not enough travel on the shock will cause loads of issues. I used to just stick coilovers on and wind them down but last few sets ive fitted have been loads better with the damper travel in the correct range.
