R26 gas bonnet lift struts

Greetings everyone,

My second post here. I'm a 4 year owner of a LY '07 R26. Pretty standard car except for DBA slotted discs and DS Performance pads to replace the cracked factory drilled gear. Few silly things like led parking light globes that must add at least 1kw each.

Lots of good threads to read through here by the looks of things.

I've spotted a mod that Matt Eaton did with his bonnet to retro fit gas struts - looks the business. I posted this in general chat but didn't get any info so pardon the repost here.

Does anyone have the part number / manufacturer for the gas struts that were used ? I've used the search function to have a look around but can't really find a thread about it related to parts or fitting instructions - any pointers greatly appreciated !

Cheers

Alright mate - sadly I didn't go for it myself, but managed to find this out about them - hopefully its of some use!, looks like a nice little mod tbh!

"black struts and no markings on them at all"

"Brand is Hans Pries Topran Germany".

Other than that, I'm afraid I don't have a clue - other than suggesting maybe going for a car that has a similar weight of bonnet as the mk2 Megane and see what happens? as you don't want something that'll apply too much pressure and damage the joints where you attach the strut and or the bonnet hinges?

The part for a 1 Series BMW looks like it may only be £16 or so, maybe worth a punt? X2 LEFT/RIGHT BONNET/HOOD GAS PRESSURE STRUT SPRING FOR A BMW 3 SERIES E46 - NEW | eBay

I should have posted an update here.....

I ended up measuring up and getting some custom made myself......

I went for 430mm X 15mm with 300N pressure with 6mm thread ball cup ends. I might have gone a little too high with the pressure calc and 250N probably would have been ok.

Thanks again for all the help trying to track this mod down. I'm lovin the fact that the bonnet doesn't have a stick holding it up - and that it goes up higher than before for better access.

Cheers

Justin
