QuickSilver Stainless Steel Backbox Group buy

I have just driven across Europe in mine. It booms. But it also sounds amazing in and out of the car. I have driven behind it now and wouldn't want it any quieter as it wouldn't be that audible to other road users ;)

Through the tunnels it sounds unreal :D

JJ, if you are worried I think you should stay with the standard or switch to the original issue K-Tech which changes the sound but without making it any louder. I guess you could add more soundproofing to the engine bay/covers if it comes back still too noisey? Just seems like a lot of hassle and cost for something you don`t sound too keen on and have no way of predicting the outcome?

I think I am going to heat-wrap mine when I get back. I have really noticed the effects of heat-soak in the car on this trip. We must be loosing a lot of power though the heat that is retained in the engine bay.

I can see I've started something here!!!

True - a group buy is usually a limited time offer, true - QS have had the benefit of a tidy sum from the offer, true - an ongoing discount from QS would be great on the strength of the business the forum has generated for them.

Some of you are happy to buy the back box on the strength of a recommendation/video clip, some are even happier to take the plunge and order the OMG version of the QS system without worrying about deafening everyone in a 5 mile radius! You pay your money and take your choice...

Personally, for me I'm always been fussy about exhaust systems. They can very easily ruin a car and there are plenty of poorly designed/built systems out there - the QS system is clearly not in this league. But, IMHO it is not perfect and could benefit with some fine tuning. I'm happy to work with QS on this as a separate activity outside of the group buy. If we get a better setup then I'm sure they'll offer it as a new setup but that could take weeks.

So, might I suggest if you want the std version Peter has or the OMG version (an unknown quantity) then order today at the guaranteed price.

If you want to wait and see how I get on then perhaps be prepared to pay a little more.

Quicksilver ordered.....at last!

How many is that then!

James said he sent 5 out today and mine will ship probably 30th June or 3rd July!

Cheers to Peter!

So who's fitting their OMG version first (assuming they get delivered tomorrow)? Think mine will be tackled on Saturday....and I will be doing video!

Just spoke to James @ QS and the group buy is over. Any more orders will be full price. :(

However:
All the OMG's were dispatched today for delivery tomorrow.

All standard boxes (except Eric in HK) should be dispatched tomorrow for delivery on Thursday.

Tim's will be later, and James is still in discussion.

Thanks
Peter :D

I'm getting mines fitted on friday.

James at QS seemed happy to let me pay next month if I wanted and still give me the discounted price. I paid today anyway and can expect mine in about 2 weeks!

I'm sure if you call him Colin and explain he'll probably give you the discounted price! You should phone him ASAP and arrange this if you are still interested....

Has anybody encountered any fitting issues as yet?

Let me know how it goes - I'll probably be able to hear it from here :) Any tips wouldn't go amiss!

Yup - was supposed to be delivered to work, but fortunately I was at home when it arrived :D

What are the physical differences between the normal and the OMG version? Is it just less sound-deadening material or is the actual construction different. I wonder how much louder than the 'normal' version it is......

Here's an OMG.

The only differences are internal.

The OMG unit has no baffles. The standard has one baffle (per cylinder bank). You'll only notice the difference when you start it up!

As an aside: I'm not sure why your welds aren't polished and "shiny" like mine. Strange. Not a problem overall its still nice but.... :?

Yeah I just noticed that after looking at Ant's original pics. Don't mind too much because I'm not planning on removing any of the rear bumper - perhaps the polisher got bored by that point. As long as its just as well built, I don't mind.
