JJ....can you let me know if you find a solution to the 'boominess'

I'm phoning James tomorrow to put my order in, and if possible want it standard with the box adjusted to stop the boominess at low revs....

I assume this is what you are trying to sort?

I emailed James @ QS on Sunday night and he replied today:-
This is a difficult one, the short answer is yes we could alter the design of the exhaust to tune this out. The difficulty being that in order to re-develop a system, we really need to borrow someone's car for a few days, as this is really the only way to properly test any modifications. As for the cause of this type of sound, it's hard to say. The usual cause is an interaction between the exhaust harmonics and the car. I would say it's something that would need to be adjusted internally inside the box, but it's a bit of trial and error to get the sound desired. ...we could try to re-tune the silencer if someone lent us their car....

I've emailed him back tonight and will talk to him tomorrow. I might be able to lend them my car for a week as a 'test mule' but if anyone is closer to QS and can help out let me know.

Why wasn't it originally tuned for minimal booming? Was performance more of a priority?

i want one of these so badly, but cant decide between this, or saving and having prestige audio build me an amazing quality in car entertainment system,

i love my music, and the stereo in the v6..just plain annoys me...but i keep listening to peters clips and saying...arhhh!!

only a few hours left to decide :(:(

I already have a k-tec though, never heard a standard vee..but its not as loud as the QS...

my girlfriend said, you never moan about ur exhaust, but you always complain about not having decent sound system...lol

Well Colin, put it this way, with the std QS system on board you won't hear the cheap Renault stereo at all! And, you could argue that a full blown, top quality install is a little pointless in the Vee (IMHO) - stick to decent components and a nice headunit.

How does the K-Tec compare from what you've read, seen and heard on this thread to the QS...?

Like JJ said, I changed the speakers to Kenwoods and the headunit to a superb JVC EXAD 2 with built in 3.5" Widescreen DVD on the face of the unit......works a treat now.......allows me to connect my 6th Gen ipod as well and it displays everything just like the ipod on the screen in full colour!

it pops when you rev it, but internally..its not loud at all really, very muted, and never heard it from thw outside..i have a PiperX so that drowns it out completely

the best i can say is when in neutral, when i rev the car with the tailgate open, it sounds nice, then pop pop pop :)

my situation is...id prefer not to mastercard it...but i'll feel a twat if i leave it, hear everyone else raving about it and then want one but would never pay nearly £900...

...so i have until 5pm tomorrow then??

Maybe....I'll be asking James @ QS tomorrow what the score is with the revised setup and seeing if he will honour the group buy price (fingers crossed). I'd sooner have it sounding spot on (for me) than blow £600 on something I know I won't be happy with just because I'd be saving money on the list price!

Re. the K-Tec vs QS, the QS drowns out the BMC so that should give you an indication of how much louder it is...

The group buy should be extended permanaently because of the ammount of business we've given them and will give them as we locate more members! Chances of someone who has not used this forum phoning and buying a QS is now slim and therefore any orders they do get will probably be from ourselves so the discounted price should stick!

That and the fact that JJ is trying to sort the booming by loaning his Vee to them. I'd like to see how that goes before finally ordering one....used to have boomy zorsts on other motors and they do get on your mamories a bit a fter a while!

JJ.....can you ask him if he'll hold the group buy open until they've sorted the setup....I'd be keen to have the same as what you are thinking of!

Don't get me wrong, it's a beaut of a system and makes the Vee sound as it always should have done...Peter's done an ace job and everyone who's ordered should love the QS setup. Just that I'm an old git who would prefer it a little more refined setup which may or may not be possible/feasible...

i dont think the group buy should stay open any longer, why should it. the whole nature of it is to entise customers to buy something because they are getting a bargin.the group buy has been open and extended now for weeks,if you cant make your mind up, then you miss the boat.chances are, any louder than std exhaust will be boomy to some degree.thats why a std exhaust sounds like it does.

Agree with you Spokes 100%
A group buy should be classed as one order, that way they are all fabricated at the same time, this naturally lowers the price.
All 'sports' type exhausts are boomy, thats why the 'boy racers' like em!

Well ... if QS want to keep the "group buy" open I reckon it's up to them ;).

Ultimately if QS can attract our volume trade by giving us a good discount then it's win-win and if they weren't make a good enough margin even on the discounted price they wouldn't be doing it.

Off the back of this volume of orders, I'm hoping that QS will give v6clio.net a good standing members discount :).

here here, JJ ask them on the phone today about making the group buy longer..16+ orders x £567 = almost £10000 they have made from just v6 iowners now

Guys,
Feel free to ring QS and ask for an extension but please bear in mind the group buy is NOT open for ever. It is by definition a limited offer. They have extended it a few times the last time so those interested could hear my car first hand. That has occured. People have IMO had enough time to make their minds up. There will always be something else to check, discuss, or compare. At some point you just have to make your mind up!

Fair enough if you pay a deposit and await JJ's new mk3 back box. Otherwise there has to be a clearly defined end to the offer, and currently it has been agreed to be today.

Thanks
Peter
