apparently it can be done, think Tony has done it.. but F..K that. Its a heavy beast so I will be doing and engine out when I have mine repaired/replaced.

I bought a gearbox of Graham - don't think he's about anymore...anyway when i turned up the box was still on the car, so he jacked it up, loosened off the bolts, dropped the box onto his chest & slid out......money exchanged hands & the deal was done.....i think Phil was with me if i remember correctly.....

That was a 2wd car & not a quadra but the thread reminded me.....:loco:

Yes I have helped do it. Its a pita of a job but slightly easier than taking the whole lot out.

You need to get the car a good foot and a half off the floor.

The Gearbox is very HEAVY it's a two person job and NEVER drop it on your chest.

If you need any more info just ask and i will see what i can do.

Yes Jon you are right - I was there!! That was some time ago, but as you said Graham rested the box on his chest, and wheeled himself out from under the car.

HE-MAN!!!

You had a focus estate back then - TDI ....

Focus TDCi the fast one i seem to remember..........think i swapped a set of 17" rims & tyres for the gearbox.....shame really as those wheels were really tasty......oh well....

what ever happened to Graham.......????

Thats not his question. Can it be done from underneath ? Yes, offcourse ! With the proper tools its easy (ramp-gearbox lift a.o). If you wanna do this on jacks...not recomanded LOL.

It was a mission but I have done it on jack's. Now I have use of a two post ramp. Jobs a good un.

If you want to bring it up to renault formby and lend a hand, then i'm sure we can come to some arrangement.

ive done gearboxes and engines on jacks for 3 years. Never again ! Last one whe did was in La Chatre...:der:

bollox to that. Mine is really easy to get to, yet a real bitch to fit, even with two of us. I Couldnt imagine doing it under the car without a lift and the proper tools.

No need for engine out Mr Dini.

Stu Harding and I removed mine before ahem:redface: it went to the insurance company (we kindly replaced it with a TXI box supplied by Sibbers:happy:). We did it on my drive, 2 man job really but fairly straight forward.

That box ended up in your car Tony I believe.

When I do it, I find it easier to take the engine out, then box, then box in then engine in. Thats on the floor though, no ramp or lifts just jacks and stands.

It's a heavy bit of kit!
