9 turbo Phase 1 9 Turbo

Well I have manage to find precisely feck all in the way or repair kits or new units, didnt really wanna be retrofitting anything!

Renault extra van or Renault Kangoo compensator will prob go with minimum hassle. Loads of gtt compensators kicking about on ebay. The rear adjustable aftermarket bias need to be plumbed in differently fuck loads of hassle in my experience.

Got a bit over-excited / ambitious and decided to deal with the rear slam panel thats been rotten as shit since the day I bought it in 2002. I picked up a new panel to replace it probably 8 or 9 years ago and never did anything with it, so I thought feck it, why not.

Need to figure out the best way to position it, then how to weld the bottom section in... should I drill holes in the car bit (where the spot welds were) and plug it from underneath or try and seam weld it?

Make some in the new panel and plug into car, or vice versa, whichever gives best welding position, ideally flat level, or just weld on edge, inch of weld, miss a couple, inch of weld...seam sealed up eventually ? So doesn't matter?
Do it to suit best position for you to weld and you'll end with best result, I've messed up plugging before.....finished and it's looked bob on....but then a few 'POP' and it hasn't penetrated lower panel on all of them, so you need juice up.

So I did a bit of cleaning up in the boot space

Laid some rust inhibiting primer and drilled some holes in the new panel to plug weld it to the bottom panel.

Then took a deep breath and started tacking it in

I mean, a bodyshop might look at that and be horrified but i'm over the moon because its reasonably competent and it's not full of holes lol. Once its seam sealed it'll be pretty much hidden.

I know the panel fit is rubbish, but it's a 1986 Renault, it was already rubbish hahaha

I have also sourced brand new boot seal rubber, and door seal rubber for it. The door seal is shared with the 5, 9, 11, 19, 21 and Alpine by the looks of it so that will be in the club shop soon, the boot seal doesnt seem so widely used though....I need to find where it is used cos I have to buy fifty metres of it minimum order - need some fwiends to share costs lol!!

Beautiful work @DaveL485 !! It’ll look great when we get the Phase 1 9 and Phase 2 11 Silver Turbo’s together for a Photo!!

We could probably combine it with our retirement parties... such is the bloody time it takes!! 🤦🏼‍♂️😂

I have procrastinated on this since stripping the compensator, in the hope I would stumble across a solution.

The diamond gods are being kind to me. brand new old stock OE compensator popped up on one of the R9/11 facebook pages yesterday, I was on it like a tramp on a bag of free chips.

€100 delivered might sound a lot but when you factor in a new non-9 item is going to be what, £50-odd quid and a whole lot of fecking about to fit, it's a no brainer.

Lucky bar steward, I would have snapped that up before your fingers touched the keyboard back when I had my 11 turbo. I ended up selling it with no MOT as the compensator was fucked and couldn't find a replacement for love nor money.

Ive had the non-Renault part number for the back numberplate lights for a while. Yesterday I found one on eBay, new....

....so I nabbed it like an alky nabs Tesco Value lager. I put a bit of effort in to research after that and found listings for brand new ones in Turkey, so again, same as with a few bits, I face the problem of getting parts from Turkey.

They really don't like shipping to the UK. There's probably about 10 or more *extremely* rare things I have found, that i want, that the Vendors simply wont send to me. Like, i'm trying to give you my money, idiots!

Anyone that can buy stuff locally and then re-post to me in the UK, please give me a shout, I will happily pay you a little extra for your assistance!

After many years of parts shortages I always have my eyes open for new-old-stock, a bit like a dog is always ready to snatch that bit of food that just dropped on the floor :D

I recall years ago taking the front bumper off the 9 and seeing the front crossmember a bit yukky - not perforating, but not mint, thinking about it that was over fifteen years ago now so when this complete front crossmember and headlight surround panel came up brand new I booked a day off work and did a six hour round trip to get it.

Having already sniffed out a NOS front bumper, main beam headlights (outers), surrounds, grille and badge i'm not far off having a complete new front end for it. If anyone sees the quad light dip beam units (inners) brand new let me know,
