9 turbo Phase 1 9 Turbo

Snow, always wanted to try it, and i'm not getting any younger so when the chance arose for a week in Italy with the lads I had to do it. I've had 2 3 hour lessons so far, I can ski well enough to go to normal public sessions now so we're going to do 2-3 of those before we go in March. Really looking forward to it! 4 of us are seasoned ski/boarders, then me and James are total noobs :)
Your love it , haven’t been for a few years but planning to go next year . Been to Italy a few times but the best was in France had great weather and caught the ice racing at night Clio’s and the like with monster engines 4wd and spiked tyres , rally cross on ice ( now there’s a tv show ) I was like a dog with 2 dicks . Beer , skiing and cars .
Turbo Renault ski trip on the cards If you get on ok .
 
NOT ONLY have I seeminly found some sills but I have movement on the parts in Turkey.... apparently I have a brand new pair of tail lights and a new front grille in transit, currently in Istanbul.

Small update, as i'm recovering from some evil flu-type-shit that really knocked me on my arse last week.

I patched the second rear axle mount point, incredibly frustrating welding again. Half of the seam was absolutely fine, was going well, then it went massively wrong for no apparent reason and it started blowing holes in the new metal so bad on the second half I had to patch the patch. It was like a big ugly volcanic explosion of weld. It's starting to really annoy me quite a lot now. After that I coated it with Bilt and patched a bit on the back of the car where the rear exhaust hanger goes which had rotted through, I had to make a whole new section and weld the hanger to it. This went fine and then I welded it to the car - thinner metal to weld to with the EXACT same settings as the volcano disaster and it stitched in absolutely fine. Go figure. Maybe its just welding upwards thats the issue or something, and I need to get the thing on a rotisserie for the underside work.

Oh...yeah, the rear axle is on hold because both the wheel cylinders are wrong (bolt spacing wrong) and the handbrake shoes are wrong (right diameter, wrong fittings in the metal shoe body)

F**ks sake! Stupid old cars and idiot ebay listings. I mean, I'm grateful new stuff is still available I guess, it's just a shame it sometimes takes a couple of goes to get the right bits. This also made me realise I need a fitting kit for the shoes too to transfer the handbrake linkage over so I bought that, more shoes and more wheel cylinders. And some gravitex for the underside. And i'd promised myself NO MORE CAR SPENDING this month...pahaha yeah right.

Ahhhh, upside down welding, It shouldn't really happen, gravity against you.
This is ungrinded, about as good as I can get, on 5 innerJP area.

I turned power and wire feed up a tad, but I pulse it a little.......just come off trigger a bit so you see pool 'glow down' and then back on it.
My guess is where you're having trouble is the bit where it's away from some 'meat' and the heat isn't soaking away quick enough, pool goes sloppy....falls

Welding is a hand skill, as well as a brain skill, power, wire feed, torch angle, material , and as you're finding out position of work piece all count, but ask yourself this .......if you bought a good quality sewing machine ( as you have invested in your weld kit ) and some leather, would you expect to trim your car up and it not look like a twat?............having never had any training or an experienced tutor and plenty of practice.
You're doing fine, if it goes wrong, seek advice, chop it off, start again if needed.

I am already tagging it and letting it cool (and repeat). Even moving areas so it has more time to cool off a bit. Made no difference, on the bad areas - as soon as the wire hit it it just ate away chunks of metal. This is what's so frustrating, same settings, same angle, same metal, same torch, same person, same strategy. The guy that taught me to mig (on a bench with new metal granted) is a professional engineer that does this all day, every day and runs his own business. I was good enough for him to let me weld up a few bits for proper paying jobs.

This is why I'm getting so annoyed, I'm perfectly capable!

Its on the black edge so I should be able to fix it with epoxy and black paint, but still, rather frustrating.

I took a bit of a gamble on the grille, it looked like it might have been a turbo one - always hard to tell from stock pictures.

Unfortunately for me, it's not a turbo grille and is an inch or two too long either side, so this gets added to the new-parts-I wasted-money-on-while-looking-for-the-right-parts pile. It's a scarily big pile.
