Overheating

Been reading some old forum posts on this and i hope that enough time has went by that its a more common problem hopefully with a solution.

Now this may have something to do with the little bump I was in, as minor as it was.

few weeks back the little delight took a flaky and popped a coolant hose (not sure what one) , got my mate to recovery it as I did not fancy driving it

anyway they fired it back on and filled up the lost coolant.

Now i think that the problem is actually more serious, the temp goes sky high and even tho the fans at the front do come on , they do nothing to cool the engine (or at least the temp gauge)

when its cold its smokey on start up for about 3-4 min then when it warms up its fine.

Side pods are not kicking in either.

Electrical problem? airlock? or something else.

thanks in advance for any pointers

I hope they didn't just fill it up but bled the system correctly too. You can easily find out by checking the temperature of the hoses in the front (when the engine is warm of course or even better when the fans are running (note the fans are also running when A/C is on)) and check if the heating works. If you want to bleed it yourself: Open the screws on the thermostat housing an the front radiator. There's also on one at the heater hose which isn't crucial for the cooling to work though. Make sure there is some coolant coming out before you close them and start the engine again. Don't forget to refill the expansion bottle. Renault also describes that in chapter 19 of the engine and peripherals MR.

Side pods are engine bay temp dependent. And the biggest heat source there is the exhaust which can produce a remarkable amount of heat especially under load. But long before that your engine will blow up anyway for lack of cooling 8)

BTW: I hope you know you can damage your engine by running it at sky high temps...

Nas, its a matte grey wrap. Last one was matte black

Im not in love with the color but I'm getting used to it, from some angles i think it looks great and from others i dont

Gave it a going over yesterday , we are thinking thermostat
