I think that's it....gonna put my other turbo & mint manifold on whilst we're there...the current manifold has been cast welded & will make a good spare & the other turbo i have was rebuilt including 360 degree thrust bearing & .31 actuator, the one on the car is a rebuilt standard unit & will also make a good spare.

Wanted to change the brakes as well but the Hispec kit won't be available until next weekend......

Dan, i've been collecting a few bit's n pieces over the last few months & it makes sense to do the whole lot in one go....roll on the weekend....:icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin:

Oh, and you'll love my calipers - i was the only one who didn't go down the black route....bright red for me..!!! They'll look smart behind my black wheels....yum yum etc.......

Unlikely........MOT's due in 2 weeks - i'll probably get the local mechanic for local people to fit them @ the same time as the MOT....

Fitting next Tuesday at Hi-Spec. They can fit them, and I will take some pics for everyone else to use. Also if they go pete tong, Hi Spec can't say its due to the shoddy mechanic fitting them , cos they did it :icon_wink:

No probs Jon, I;m at a wedding saturday, - what day you thinking ?

Friday....?????

Ok, update time........

It wasn't the rear main crank seal....we removed the starter motor before pulling the engine out - the starter was oil free & the back of the fly wheel was dry to the touch...After another look we decided it must be the distributor unit - so we changed if for a newer one in good condition - also used sealant to make sure it was ok...all looked ok after the test drive so i replaced the manifold & turbo which was straight forward. Also changed the fuel sender in the fuel tank.

Anyway, headed home today & gave the old girl some stick down the M42 & M40, stopped at the services to check all was well & guess what.....chuffing oil everywhere & the turbo water cooling feed pipe had given up & was pissing water out......no tools in the car:icon_evil::icon_evil:had to go and buy the cheapest multi-tool i've ever seen (was all they had) & repair the hose...

Had enough of this bloody oil leak - why do the 21's have so many weak spots....

Anyone got any serious ideas to fixing the leak.......or want to make me an offer for the car......LOL

Chuffing cars....

Jonboy, there's only a certain amount of points oil can leak from. If it's coming out the bottom of the bellhousing are you SURE it's engine oil? Defo not 'box oil or PS fluid? Brake fluid even?
If it is it's got to be Dizzy seal, internal dizzy seal, Head Gasket, Crank seal, Sump gasket possibly? Thats about it.

Highest point of oil is top of fly wheel sensor.......& everywhere below it.....bottom of dizzy cap is "moist" so is directly under the distributor unit - NO clutch slip what so ever.......car is really pulling well - kept up with an new Astra VXR today - so there's no problems with the performance - it's all the s**t that goes with them - i'm scared to open the bonnet sometimes in case something else has fallen off.....:icon_biggrin::icon_biggrin:

Possibly a leaky HG then, has it had one lately?

Clean it all up from the bellhousing to the dizzy, properly with thinners. Mark lines on it with chalk every 1cm between the same places, go for a drive. You should be able to tell which chalk marks have been oiled when you get back, giving you the approx location.

it's had the oil leak since i've owned it & i haven't had the head gasket done myself.....i'm going to give the distributor the "sponge treatment" & see what happens...

Ok, i've just done the sponge test (attach a sponge to the bottom of the distributor cap/unit) went for a high speed 20 mile test run & guess what.....there's NO fresh oil on the bell housing....:icon_lol::icon_lol: Not sure whether to order a new distributor unit or leave the sponge in place to soak up the leaking oil.......?85.00 or so + VAT for a new distributor...:icon_eek::icon_eek:
