New project

Cleared out the workshop yesterday and found almost all the parts needed to build another 16v turbo, got some arrow rods, oversize low comp pistons, 2ltr clio bottom end and a 1.816v head, not sure if its been done already but i thought it would be fun to put this in the quadra, got to make up a bell housing adaptor and mounts but nothing to complicated, if it has been done has anyone seen or got any pics?

Not done AFAIK.

When you get bored of it , Ill buy it off you for ?20 inc fitting for my five :)

I mean the engine is build as a transverse mount. Using it in a longtitudinal application is less than ideal.

Why's that then? The mounts can be made to fit anywhere as long as they are strong enough.

Edit; in fact, most "7" type kit cars use Zetec, V-Tec, or other transverse engines in an "in-line F/R" configuration.

Because of course, "Less than ideal" means "you can never make it even fit with a bit of work" doesnt it?3

Oh....wait....

....no it doesn't!

EG- Fitting a GTA V6 Turbo would be easier than fitting the above mentioned engine. No suspended mounts, mount points are in the right area, angle isnt an issue, sump baffles designed with the right orientation in mind, Engine incantation, Length, pulley protrusion, Subframe interference, and so on.

That engine is a doddle to get in the five. Loadsa people have done it ..

What sort of power do they make? Reliability? Weight? etc.

Depends on your idea of "Ideal". If youre looking for something that swaps straight over, then obviously theres only a limited number of engine combinations available.

Reliability is good, as for power, 250-260hp at 15psi shouldn't be a problem, got some weber IW 061 injectors that give 500cc/min at 3bar so could see how far they take the motor with a GT2871r.

Touch rich , I need a BBtuning downpipe and then mapping. Plus all other ancillaries. Will it come with a GT2871r ?

James5 sold his with all the good stuff for ?1500 - ok not arrow pistons etc but still low comp ones...

Arrow rods, they cost ?900, i got a spare block, crank and head, yours for cheap money, you'll need pistons and rods to finish it though.

Might have found a bell housing that fits the box and motor directly, no adaptors, getting it dropped off this afternoon.
