My Loose Undertray

Hi Guys,

As some of you may know, I went to K-Tec on Monday to get some stuff done. On the motorway home, I noticed a flapping noise coming from my car. I have hunted around and I'm almost 100% sure it's a loose undertray.

I've taken some photos to show you guys to ask for your thoughts.

These photos where taken from underneath the passenger seat. Is this the rear or front part of the undertray? Also, when I try to push it up it's very stiff.

Can someone please advise!?

Can't quite see from the pics but looks like the front section of the engine under tray is hanging down - as per my post above ? It should be tucked under the centre tray otherwise the air rushing under the car will catch it and force it down and make it flap or worse still tear it off ! There are two nuts which hold it in place under the car ...

In fact looking again, pic 2 clearly shows the undertray not fitted correctly - it looks like the centre one though.

Ah yes, I can see it's the centre under tray and the bolts have been sheared off and so nothing is holding the centre or rear engine tray up sp they are hanging down and dargging/flapping [smilie=icon_eek.gif] You will need to use cable ties as a temporary measure and ideally get some new bolts fitted. I think this is probably quite common unless the undertray nuts and bolts are greased ...

IMHO it certainly shouldn't have been left like that if someone has done some work on your car - I always check for correctly fitted undertrays if I have work done on my Vee or if I do work on anyone elses

yes that pic definately shows the front of the middle try hanging down..

as martin says..this sits above the front tray by 2 10mm bolts

My rear undertray was not fitted correctly and was on top of the centre section causing it to flap after having the clutch fitted, Renault in Norwich had tyraped it hoping I would not notice as the warranty was almost out, however I did notice and they ordered new tank straps, I guess they sheared or stripped some captive nuts on them? No idea how much tank straps would cost.

one of the bolts has come off one of my tank straps, i use a washer and cable tie each time, works a treat!

Thanks for your help guys.

I just got back from K-Tec who have now fixed my problem. The bolt housings were totally corroded which is why the bolts so easily came off. They ended up drilling a couple of holes either side of the housing and using a couple of stainless steel tie wraps to tie the undertray on each side to the bar that the housing is attached to (if that makes sense!).

They've done a good job, so if anyone one has a similar problem and wants some help / explanation, I'd be happy to help!

I have a similar problem with mine I noticed today. Many cable ties have been used to fix the tray up. Will get it down to the man in Wiltshire who sorts all my bodged jobs out properly.
