Quick update.....it rests like this for about a week while I wait for the new downpipe to be made up.
It starts, runs and idles on the new build and in pics the GT2860 is fitted.
Not really bothered by numbers tbh mate, @Haz intimated in another thread that I seemed bothered by the higher number and yes that was true but now Im a little more educated on the whole process of my little 8v, I'd sooner the torque was higher.
A little more usabilty on all road types methinks.
Losing a straight line race with a Pulsar making less power than me made me realise I'm chasing shadows a tad with my 8v tech.
Not at all, before the thread got out of hand I was trying to discuss whether you were trying to make it more reliable, or more power.
I think differently to you and Dave. Personally I always want the same or higher bhp than torque. If you torque is wildly higher then it's all happening too low in the rev range imo.
If it was all about the numbers I'd just throw my f4r turbo'd lump in.

I'm not sure its different thinking, more what we like is different. I love the torque punch of the 21 in the midrange. Thats what its always done well, thats where it fights its battles the best and thats what I usually tune to keep or accentuate.
As it stands now it's epic, considering the spec. I'm actually worried the 12v will change the nature of it so much that i'll want the 8v back.

No mate seriously I went to Scoff and said give me the highest numbers seen on a 21 with this spec. 297 gave me an erection but as you said I was 1degree from knock and later events proved that to be too close.
Knocking the timing back 5degrees with a 2.7 psi increase and a cam saw +46bhp and -18lbft.
If funds permit after Ive moved I'll go big valves and a not so race cam.
I liked the way it drove on a std engine if I'm honest. Felt very urgent.

I was thinking maybe a 21 GTX Subframe with a transverse F4R and JC 'box, and modded wishbones to mate up to the 2.0 suspension struts. You would have LOADS of room for the O2M box conversion then too.
Unless it was a Quadra, then i'd need to keep it longtitudinal, and i'd need to see if the F4R would clear the subframe - of the H shape to decide which way to go.
