Megasquirt my Clio turbo!

Member
Hi all. First post on here but I'm a regular on williamsclio.

I have a Clio 16v which I've just turbo'd. Currently it has an Rtuner chip but it's faulty so I'm fucking it off back to Fastchip in favour of Megasquirt engine management.

Is there anyone on here who has experience of using MS on their turbo F7P or similar, who could give me advice?

I want to use all the same sensors and components (all OE Clio 16V except R21 Turbo MAP sensor and injectors).
Does anyone have an F7P map that I could use as a base for mine?:)

I'm looking at this pre-built MS v.3:

eBay Motors: Megasquirt I v3.0 MS engine fuel management EFI ECU!!! (item 140100990833 end time Apr-04-07 17:16:42 PDT)

Does this have aeverything I need? If not, what else do I need?

Basically, my project is running out of time I need to get it running and MOT'd ASAP!

Thanks in advance for any all of your advice.

My Clio turbo: 100% home built - no BBPT/Ktech parts here (not that there's anything wrong with them!)

thought they wouldn't run off the crank sensor as its not bosch, you can obviously alter the timing to suit the renault pattern but thought the siemens sensors buggered them

did you make the manifold?

Yep!

Chet:
You're one of the few then. Henk (Owner of Fastchip) told me he's had loads of complaints about it not connecting with the software, so he's developing a USB version.
What version of Rtuner are you using, which version of Windows have you got, and what are all your COM port settings on the computer and on Rtuner?

hey all,

hope your all well, not been on here for ages - lots of work things going on.

The Megasquirt will use all the Renault sensors fine, the only thing it will not talk to is the Renault ignition module (unless you build some form of shifter as I believe the Renault ignition module is TTL logic and the Megasquirt GNDs the ignition module cable via a FET when it wishes to fire the coil).

I just put a standard +12V ignition coil (one designed for EFI usage) on, +12V to a fused output and the negative to the FET on the Megasquirt.

I'm running MegasquirtNSpark rather than the original Megasquirt so that I can get the ignition outputs as well.

The car actually runs quite well, a lot of pull in it and its only on a rough seat-of-my-pants type tune, unfortunately I've not had chance to do anything with it lately the plans to get it on a Dyno and get it tuned up properly :)

Feel free to ask me any qs!

Matt

I'm running our new Emerald K3 with a full compliment of Renault sensors Chris with the exception of the TPS which is a Rover pot fitment as it fits straight to the Jenveys (unlike the Megane TPS) and it only cost me £12 new.

1.41 i think?

The only problem i had was that you needed to turn on the ignition and hit the connect button within 0.0001 of a second of each other so it can take a few tries to get it

Was tewblog working for you?

Cheers, Terrastudios.
Does MS v.3 not have ignition control installed already? So would I have to buy another module to handle ignition?

XP, home i think i dunno because its not my laptop.

tewblog will show if theres a problem with the cable or the ecu or whatever

yeah, try running tewblog....if your not getting any data through that, theres defo a problem.

You could also try connecting direct to the ecu plug, rather than through the diag port. I'll dig out the pin numbers you need if you dont already have them.

Stan and Chet: Tried TEWBlog this evening doesn't work either. My diagnostic port's OK cuz it had a diagnostics computer used on a whil back.

BBracer: I'd be happy to make one for you. Problem is I had to get the flanges made and that bumps the price up. In the end I'd have to sell the manifold for a bit more than BBT's one on Ebay at the moment to make it worthwhile.
The one's BBT are Ebaying right now are the price they should be selling them at - The £400 they charge on their website is silly (basically they add 100% commission on every part).
I'd say grab one of those Ebay ones if you can. If you, can't, give me a shout.

I would think connecting direct to the ecu reduces voltage drop due to reduced resistence. From what i remember Henk telling me (this is going back a couple of years) the system uses quite low/weak voltage traces, so any alteration ends in quite a dramatic loss.

I thought I only had connection problems because it was when they were first realeased....seamingly not.
