Megane Megane GT165 stinking of eggs and lack of power - Now sorted but white / grey smoke at every stop

As in my welcome thread I have an 07 Megane GT Turbo 165bhp petrol, last few weeks its had a misfire / missing, this last week in the cold weather its been horrendous, so ive just fitted a used set of Megane R26 / 230 injectors and coilpacks...

And ive fuked it, cleaned everything as ive went along and checked everything is right, just taken it out for a test drive and it gets worse the longer I drive, holding back when revved, not as quick, doesn't seem boost as hard, STINKS of eggs so pretty sure its just mullered the cat and doesn't tick over great (almost stalls)

?Whatve I done wrong? I thouroughly checked on the injectors that they were the same, 3 places listing the same injectors for 165 /205 /225 &230, 2 places offering to sell me same as ive fitted (blue band r26) mine original are a dirty light brown colour which I believed to be the same as early 225 inectors so no issue swapping, coilpacks are Genuine Beru, @andybond I swear you had one of these syptoms in an old thread I read?

Wasnt me fella.

However , I can confirm you are right on the injector front : Brown 225 , Blue R26.

Have you checked and cleaned your plugs ?

Have you disturbed the n75 valve ?

165 injectors are different then 225 injectors, 100% sure on that!

You should've put a code reader at work before starting to replace stuff
Just for clarity - I was confirming the colours of the injectors not if they are correct.
I believe the 165 also runs a smaller turbo. a 10t ?

You know @tutuur , i cant deny your right, its quite simply mass thread reading i deduced its either coilpacks, injectors as a high chance or has bosch plugs in, its got NGKR's in so latter now ruled out and I got the packs and injectors at a good price having been quoted £211 for 4 injectors from local dealer on my reg (he didn't know what colour)

Just cleaned up one of the original injectors ive taken out and instead of brown as they appeared after much alchol they've come up a solid yellow, searching the part number comes up with these below also listed as suitable for a 225 /230
Fuel Injector RENAULT Megane Scenic Laguna Espace 2.0 16V Turbo F4Rt xxx IWP098 | eBay

so that's blagged me

would the 230 injectors be completely wrong then? as in it wouldn't self adapt to them? pointless me spending time on other stuff before putting some yellows back in if so (ironically one was cracked on removal)

I do also have a new 225 turbo sitting in the scenic I could use but I couldn't drive it anywhere for mapping to suit :-/ bugger

the ecu is able to adjust but there'/ a big difference in injector size. The 165 injectors flow about 275cc instead of the Megane's 390cc's.

As i said, visit someone with a proper code reader mate, could save you load of time and headaches!

Damn it, thankyou for your help, ill order a yellow from that link above, put that and the 3 intact originals back in then go from there as you say, if it wont adapt fully I'm guessing it will just borewash the hell out the engine if I try drive it the 6 miles to my local snapon reader guy?

Err, the stinking of eggs is usually a sign of catalytic converter failure. This can restrict the engine to the point it won't run, or very poorly.
Could it be just that the cat is totally gone? I have heard of 225s with cat failure not even starting properly..

Indeed Ewan, chucking fuel through cats kills them, also missrunning such as driving with misfires etc can, thing is this was INSTANTLY after the injectors an coils swap, id been out in it 6 hours previous and it was driving fine bare the previously mentioned misfire

I had brought a decat for it (well actually for the scenic) but have read the cats on these are quite restrictive, my mot man can be lenient but if its 2x over hes not gonna let me off and its not the quick change job I'm used to from other cars it seems :help.gif:

ps thread update, local Renault wanted £ 84.75 each for injectors (I need one to replace one broken on removal) and couldn't get them till Thursday as non stocked so just ordered a set of 4 new genuine's off ebay, will see how it is after fitting them

Just wanted add though not really relevant now, car held no trouble codes when checked 2 week ago on the torque android app and its never show eml light, its a shame Renault diagnostics aren't available cheaper like the Italians are, my alfa I can assess with full live running data and check / power up each part checking for failures, I feel like such a newbie been back in Renaults.

Torque app wont register the df codes on a renault mate. My clio was running in fault and torque showed no faults however the Renault can clip showed loads logged on the ecu. You can buy a clone can clip off ebay for about a ton.

I'm guessing a Snapoff Solus also wont show the data then? I did go looking the other night for a dodgy clip but couldn't find anything uk only import/ forighn site, i don't see this an issue with parts but not sure on the legalities of dodgy software coming through customs.. unless its just a download link obviously but it was suggested on CS forum a while back when asking about my Cliosport that the standard ELM connectors cables / module wont work with half of the clip software ?

EDIT- Scratch that, searching less carefully I found fuooking shit loads, all around £110-140 as complete kits with interface box, cables and software, I'm guessing just choose the highest version number? some people quoting V143 and others quoting upto V160 oddly

Id say it would be usefull in future but I think the Scenic is going on standalone when the charger goes on as OEM management seems as expensive if not more costly to map for less usability :-/

If you're lucky enough finding a working one that is, i seem to be jinxed with China clones

Nope theyre fakes... confirmed by the seller, couldn't believe my luck or his reasoning, ill post the returned email after my rant at him

Hi Wayne

Good morning.

I am sorry if you feel confused about your purchase, we did not want to disappoint you.

These injectors made in a licensed US factory with OEM specifications, hence no box or documentation of ANSU testing, also this is the reason the clips are being supplied separately. We target high quality on low prices and we have to compromise to be able to afford it.

If you are looking for full package OE parts, we advise to find a seller on eBay who is in contract with Renault or better to go a dealership to avoid any further difiiculty.

Best regards

I was bloody gobsmacked, confirmed after looking at bosch video from 2008 as to what to look out for, these had same attributes when I went and got an original out garage, no Webber Magnetti marelli logo, different font for the IWP number, O rings shiny black rather than dull grey, fixings supplied separate as apparently all new injectors should be supplied with new fixing clips as theyre non reuseable

Sent back and called dealer an hour ago, cant get me a set or even one till Saturday / Monday, 2 aftermarket suppliers contacted awaiting quotes back, at moment it would be easier and cheaper to put the 225 turbo on I have sitting in loft and then just get it mapped to suit..
