Megane 225 cat scrap value

Since I got a zero final value fee offer from ebay I listed the cat from the turboshed donor vehicle at what I thought was a cheeky price and immediately had a load of offers come in, highest of which (so far) is £570

Now, what's the deal here? How is it possibly worth this much? Never heard of people selling them for this kind of money.

I've just taken the £570 offer from ebay, it's well over double what I thought was a cheeky price and don't need to be greedy. Just having trouble believing it.

Forgive my lack of knowledge but why is it worth so much when you can buy new catalytic converters on eBay for £60?

Because the OE cats are of a far higher quality, with a far higher precious metal content.

But I've never heard of one of these selling for more than about £300 before.

Not quite they're £900 new, stolen cats are selling for £300 each, we've lost 5 at work now and my own off the RX400h.

I'm told the new RAV4 has the cat built into the engine??? (Unsure how but that was on an email I saw from Toyota not some pub hearsay)

Ow shit, that has to hurt!

I know there is/was an epidemic of Prius cat thefts but I guess a high riding hybrid SUV is even easier to nick from.

It does hurt, the cat off a Prius Plus is a shade under £2k new and the pre lockdown wait was 9 weeks.

...and yes, they walked under our RX while it was parked at a train station.

I got £530 for both my cats earlier on this year. The F4RT cat and the original cat from the 1.6 Megane engine. I imagine the bulk of that was in the 2.0 cat though.

It's always a gamble in scrap though. I've seen prices drop to almost zero on some things over the years.

Seems to be lots of different brands of cat fitted to meganes, some clearly worth lots more than others. Mine was an ArvinMeritor one, what was yours?
