Marks RX7 - lets break a rotary.

Jeez mate - take today as a blessing, after what happened to Moggy the fact that you're uninjured is enough to put it down as a positive.

Congrats on the first start. Anything else thats happened around that is just a minor inconvenience that you'll laugh about in a few weeks time.

Glad you’re ok mate. Deflating but these things happen to us all.

Although it shouldn’t have gone through the floor like that, it looks rusty but hard to say from the pic. I’ve seen plenty of idiots jack up cars on floor pans. Leaves an awful mess but never usually brakes through as easily as it seems to have.

Please don’t say it’s the same as the person who repaired your 5, as that would’ve been hard work to put right. I don’t understand all the effort and money you’ve put into This to have the floor pan plated up.

Just my opinion but if I don’t say it I’ll be swearing at the pics you put up once it’s been done…

Hi mate,

What do you mean about my 5 floor pan ? I can’t remember back that far. 😂

Did the guy mess it up ?

Definitely not rust, just light surface rust you see in pics. It was the axle stand that went through as it’s had the whole weight of the car on it.

Keen to hear your opinion on the best fix ?

The floor pan repairs you had done on the 5 were just plates slapped on top. Heavy ones at that. Send me some better pictures over, it wants look right anfter all this.

From the horrible pic you posted it looks like bad luck and the Law of Sod. The stand being sharp edged and it catching right on the edge of the drain bung cover ( which is not welded) it was the weakest point and it tore. I didn't mention in my thread, but when we finished painting the Dauph and we're taking it off the stands. I was lying at the front lowering the jack and Dave had removed the stands, as I lowered away carefully, I saw it start to fall off the Jack. I closed my eyes and cranked it to full lower. I did not open them until Dave had jumped up and checked the jack hadn't gone through the boot floor! Luckily it had caught the steering rack mount ( the strongest point in the area and just dropped the jack double quick. I usually do the @DaveL485 thing of putting the wheels under the car as well as the stands, but they were on it as it was the final drop to the floor.

Shit happens sadly mate, it will fix.

On my old gtt i was using a cheap trolley jack on the chassis rail, it slipped and put a nice nipple in the floor.

Got the big fcuking hammer and a coat of schultz on the area 😆

Okay I’ve given my head a good wobble and beat myself up for a few days, today I was back at it.

First up some trouble shooting with the tuner which has confirmed the 02 sensor was DOA. Fucking car is the devil, I’m going to name it Lucifer moving forward. New sensor due next week.

Tried to get it going again by cleaning with some brake cleaner, was full of grit but no joy.

No photos but you’ve seen this engine thousands of times by now. Basically I had an exhaust leak from manifold so pulled down pipe, turbo, manifold off this morning to check the flanges with a straight edge just to double check. I’ve refitted using Permatex gasket spray, awesome stuff as it creates a good gasket layer but isn’t messy like paste.

Noticed an issue with the sealing of turbo to manifold so I think this was my exhaust leak. Need to pick up some new bolts from the fasteners Monday.

Next up I solved the turbo regulator oil feed issue by replacing with Turbosmart version 2 which does the same job but without the need of the oil return line back to my filler neck.

So with any luck by this time next week I’ll have a fixed floor pan and a car that is ready to be tuned.
