Marks RX7 - lets break a rotary.

I’ve done about 70 miles, shooting for 1000 this time.
I dont think you need 1000 miles.

If you average 3000rpm for 3 hours of mixed driving thats 3000 x 180 = 540,000 engine revolutions, if you have anything to "wear in" or any high spots in the engine I would imagine they're gone after half a million revolutions :)

I agree, I think 500 is plenty before tuning but I’d like to just enjoy the car before it blows up straight after 😂

350 miles of happy motoring running it in. The tune is slowly getting dialled in working remotely on the drivability/cold start stuff

On a limit of 5500 which is mega boring - the car just wants to be driven hard, I’m going to do another 100miles followed by oil and filter change and book mapping. (Hopefully early April)

We’ve decided to add methanol in to the mix - I’m shooting for 700hp this time (turbo might be out of puff by then) what could possibly go wrong? 😂

The running is as good as done, I’ve changed oil and filter plus awaiting plugs to arrive.

I’ve got 10ltrs of methanol as going to try a 50/50 mix this time.

I gave it a wash, Polish and wax the other day using Poorboy products - easy to use and good value for money.

How will you increase the fuelling? Dope won't detonate which is good, but you have to richen the mixture quite a lot to get more power. Hence the old adage about hot speedway motors having the main jet removed to increase fuelling. John Passini touches on it in his Weber carburettor books, he also comments on removing the jets, but recommends proper recalibration of the fuel slope. I suppose the main benefit of throwing so much fuel in is the cooling effect it has????

I originally planned to inject pure methanol and roughly worked out it would be around 104 octane but then read that AEM who make the kit don’t recommend using pure methanol with their lines and pump.

I think with a 50/50 mix it will have some effect in terms of an octane boost but mainly using it for its cooling properties which will hopefully allow me to run 26/27psi, I think I’ll need this much boost to reach my power goals.

One thing the old racers of yesteryear didn't have was access to racing fuels like we have today. I wonder how it would run on the Highest grade race petrol available today ? you would need multiple maps for good and standard fuel though, otherwise its molten metal all round!!!

Not much happening with the RX7, I’m awaiting a mapping date, possibly 22nd April.

I did lower it slightly following the move from 18s to 17s, it’s only half an inch but makes all the difference.

I also ripped out the old alarm which had stopped deactivating via the key fob, going to upgrade to a new Cat1 set up with immobiliser.

Fitted a new high/low boost switch where the alarm light has left an empty hole in dash, it’s almost OE. 😂

Future plans are a refresh on suspension, brakes and all bushings. That can all wait until the winter.

4 months to go until my rear lights arrive from Japan! Can’t wait.

Over 650 miles done now, I was supposed to be getting the car tuned this Friday but I’ve been let down which is a shame, hopefully next weekend now.

I gave it a wash today and then following these pics a quick polish. I’m going to get the wings and bumper repainted in the winter and then PPF’d as already have too many stone chips for my liking. Should of done this after paint originally.
