preRS Clio M9 Clio 16v -no not slamber related 🤣

Exhaust fabrication up next. I was kindly donated the manifold and downpipe by coops, however half the downpipe was missing. Luckily the easier part to make i ordered a selection of pipe bends and some flanges to make the missing part and a decat. Luckily for me I have a friend who is awesome at welding.

Next on the list was to sort out the cooling circuit for the turbo. I didn’t want to have it on the engine circuit for a few reasons. The main one being just to be a little different.

I used a lightly modified 206 header tank and bracket fixed to the bulkhead below the Clios engine one and used a bosch auxiliary water pump, like the Clios own standard aux pump. Wired to a relay to come on with ignition. Tried to get it to only run with the engine but I struggled to find an easy wire to tap in to. The rad is a charge cooler size / type. Not many pics of these parts though.

Next up was the battery relocation. Originally I wanted it kept under the bonnet, but with the new additional coolant pipes and tank there was no room for an air filter to fit in. I bought a crimping tool, a junction box, extra cable to extend the stock loom and robbed a battery cable from an E90 330d. Still haven’t final fitted the battery box yet. The battery is just sat in the boot at the moment.

I started the car and it idled really high. I could not for the life of me find a reason why, there was no air leaks anywhere. Last thing to check was the throttle body. Needless to say it was f**ked. It’s a R19 16v body and who ever played with it mullered it. The butterfly’s were not seating properly and had been ground down to a sharp edge. They weren’t even round any more. Luckily I had a spare Clio 16v throttle body I could pinch the butterfly’s from. Once that was sorted it idled perfect. 7817B622-F506-49F4-83B5-40CF21FF5D13.webp86264F6B-FD3B-4294-B4FF-4086544E9257.webp410EF8AE-F098-4FF7-AAAD-019409A8F023.webp

Whislt the car was up on the ramp I noticed bit of rust on the sills. Yeah, that turned in to a lot of rust 😫😫. The arches had a fair bit of bubbling but the underlying metal was not too bad. Oh and a random rust patch on the rear 1/4. Same story both sides, just the passenger side is a tad worse. 5E84757A-8C45-4996-921B-FB72564D0811.webp75BDDC32-D8B9-457E-9B8A-DCCF6617E5C4.webp210C6F69-4C4B-4888-9F33-198A393C0B8E.webp
