Hi everyone.
Thought I'd write here first and say hello and give you a little introduction to myself and my car.

Name: Lewis Gonzalez (obviously)
Job: Technician at Renault
Car: 2013 Renault Clio Renaultsport 200 EDC LUX
Factory options: flame red paint, cup chassis
Modifications: ktec induction kit, diamond performance black badge covers, airtec front mounted intercooler, modified standard recirculation valve.

I enjoy attending shows and the occasional track session.

Any questions I'm always happy to answer, can never be bored talking about my car.
I'll attempt to add a few photos below.

Much love,

Lewis

A few notes about the couple of little mods I have done so far:

The ktec induction kit gives a real nice noise of the turbo spooling up which is great, comes with a heatshield too which is good. Point to note about it though is that it doesn't come with a replacment induction hose as you can see here (excuse the dirty engine bay)603742_10155513934010453_7474541394705130194_n.webp
The intercooler that is now fitted to the front of the car is made by Airtec, you'll probably recognise their name if you or your friends are into your Fords as they tend to be for the most part a Ford tuning specialist. I was fortunate enough to get the opportunity to let them use my car to develop the kit on, so as it stands currently my car is the only one in the world with this intercooler seup on it.

It features a 60mm core with flowed cast end tanks and doesn't require any cutting to the bumper to fit. Comes with a the option of black or silver for the intercooler itself and muliple different colours of hoses that can be picked from along with a 3 year, unlimited mileage warrently.

As for any performance gains with the intercooler I can really comment much as my car is currently on the standard map and has never been on the rolling road. I am hoping that it will help when the time comes to getting it mapped though, failing that it does look good anyway and does tend to draw attention.

As for the modified standard recirculation valve... basically I wanted at atmospheric dump valve but so far the only kit I can find is by Forge at around £180 which I cant justify at the moment although I will get one eventually. What I have done for the mean time though is to disconnect the outlet side of the recirculation valve that goes into the inlet hose and blanked it off to stop any debris getting into the inlet and let the valve vent to atmosphere rather than back into the inlet, essentially a do it yourself for free dump valve. It sounds ok but I do want the proper one on there. I do sometimes disconnect the plug (its an electronically actuated recirculation valve) and let it remain closed to give that turbo chatter sound, I'm in two minds which sounds better if I'm honest and I am aware that there have been debates around for years as to whether blanking it off shortens the life of the turbo or not.

Future plans
I have ideas and plans but getting the money together to put them into place will take some time
I am planning on getting a full exhaust system for the car both decat pipes, not sure on what one to go for as yet but scorpion is looking like a likely contender so far or possibly a custom build from vortex in Essex.
After that I'll need to get it mapped, unsure really of where to go for this, I'd like to take it to RS Tuning due to their solid reputation but they are based in Leeds and myself in North Kent so it would be fair old trek there and back, so if anyone has any other suggestions that could deliver the same level of customer care/satisfaction for mapping Renaultsports a bit closer to home then I'm all ears.
I'd also like to lower the car a bit on springs, not loads but enough to close the arch gap and give it a bit more of an aggressive stance about it, the likely contender for these are H&R springs as I had a set on my old Twingo and I loved them so why not stay with a brand I like.

That's basically it I think for the time being I think. I hope I didn't bore you too much and if anyone has any questions or comments feel free to say I'm always open for a good discussion on cars.

comes with a heatshield too which is good.

Due to it having a cooler , a direct CAF isnt strictly needed ...
Airtec, you'll probably recognise
yep! we get them on the meg :)
I can really comment much as my car is currently on the standard map and has never been on the rolling road
grab yourself a odb2 elm from ebay - wifi one for apple devices , or bluetooth here for android. and a copy of dashcommand to monitor all sorts of great stuff , like air intake temps , boost , etc etc

RS Tuning due to their solid reputation but they are based in Leeds and myself in North Kent so it would be fair old trek there and back
Dont mess ,take them to the best. RST all the way.

Good point about the heatshield, it does make it look a little tidier in there if nothing else, what with the messy Nissan engine, annoyingly it has no engine cover.

I have one of those elm thingys but the wifi one for apple products, I used to use it with my old iphone 4 years ago in my old clio3 tce to do all that with, but I could never get it to work with my ipad after updating it, so I think I'll have to get a android one instead and use my phone. The one thing I wish my car had is the RS monitor 2.0 but sadly it doesn't and by all accounts cannot be retrofitted either...not entirely sure of the reasons behind that one to be honest as the old RS monitors in the Clio 3 and Twingo 2 RS could be. Granted its much more sophistcated now what with the live mapping of your track times and gps position etc etc.

That's everyone I have spoke to so far saying to me to go to RS tuning for mapping so I think it will be there. I'll just make a weekend of it or something when the time comes and visit friends further up the country whilst I'm at it.

but I could never get it to work with my ipad after updating it,
Its a bit of a pain, mine did the same.

plug in it , turn on car then try and connect.

make sure the app is set to pickup the wifi that the elm broadcasts.

chose on the device obd-II inferface type ELM
obd-II data port auto
aux input type non
aux input only set to off

'll just make a weekend of it or something when the time
honestly its well worth it. Have a night out in Leeds , its a good laugh.

I tried everything I could find on the internet but to no avail, the problem is mounting the damned thing in the car, whereas my phone always sits in a cradle in the bottom right of my windscreen so may just get one to use with that.

Yeah I'll get it done eventually, its all money I haven't got at the moment which is a bit depressing but I'm enjoying driving my car as it is for now.

Fair play. Nowt cheap in tuning , if there is , it wont be any good .

Keep the updates coming , great car you have.

That is very true, but value for money does factor in slightly but at the end of the day you get what your pay for...or at least your should.

I will do, thank you I appreciate your kind words.

Interesting read, thanks for posting. Be good to see how the car develops! Surprising there's no engine cover, it looks a bit odd without one on a newer car lol.

I'll echo Andy on the RS Tuning thing, he's very good by all accounts. Between him for OEM ECU's and EFI Parts for Standalone we're well covered in the Renault tuning world, they are both excellent.

Is your car a flappy paddle gearbox car?

Hi Lewis & welcome to TurboRenault.co.uk!!

Smashing car you've got there. The longer I see those new Clio's, the more I like them.. The new Clio Trophy looks like a winner!!??

Be interested to hear your thoughts on the flappy paddle gearbox with your trackday exertions?

@badbuzz2 has got a new Clio also and added a thread about it HERE

Steve :)

Hi guys. Thank you for your kind words.

Yes I have the flappy paddle gearbox or to give it it's full name dc4 dual clutch lol. To be honest I really can't see what any of the complaints are about, especially on track in race mode the gearbox changes up and down really quite fast, I mean yes you're not pressing a clutch pedal or swapping cogs by hand but all that means is your gear changes are even quicker and there is no chance of driver error and crunching or mis-selecting gears. Holding down the left paddle whilst braking makes the gearbox autoselect the lowest gear possible given your speed so hitting a corner hard and holding the paddle down means you can jump back on the power that little bit sooner as you come through the apex...Also the launch control is pretty cool, have had a bit of fun with that a traffic light derby's so to speak.

Regarding the trophy it will be interesting to see how it compares standard vs standard compared to the current edition. Yes they are quoting things like 50% faster shifts but in reality because it already changes gear fast (milliseconds) then I'm not too sure you'll notice the difference. I personally don't like the seats in the trophy and to add insult to injury they are an expensive optional extra...given the choice I'd take the nornal leather option, those integrated headrests just don't look right to me and they've got nothing on the recaros seen in the older clio 3 rs and the Megane 3 rs either.

Sorry if I have now bored you all
