Twingo John's £150 Twingo Extreme Trackday Project

Well.....tore the old engine apart and clutch seemed to be on right way round so I'm gonna guess the slave cylinder was knackered (it was very cronchy) and the cause of the very bad idle/lumpyness...?

All four pistons had ringland failures on them :v

thats pretty bad but explains the crap running. comp test before new belts next time. Was this engine a stock engine/map? when you got it?

Stock engine, unknown on map. Previous owner said he had it mapped but had no evidence he did this or could tell me any specifics of said mystery map and he didnt seem clued up about much in general either.

Upgraded to a slightly better than £50 of FB Marketplace bucket seat, still second hand penny pinching though:



£160 for the seat + freshly out of date 6 point OMP harness that'll go on the passenger side

Also do you have any pics of your gt alternator? I need part nos off that too
 
An absolute colossal pain from start to finish, easily the worst thing so far on the car...

With limited time due to pregnant sick wife and having to do lots of childcare time has been limited to 15 mins here and there for last few months so this was a pain as nothing is achievable in that time, the rear beam capital bolts did their traditional fuckery which required them to be angle ground out which meant I've sliced the shell so need to weld/fill that back in. Luckily only inner skin and quite far away from the actual bolt holes but still a pain to deal with.
Old cruddy discs put back on and need to re-attach handbrake/ABS lines still.

Brake lines I've decided to run internally so will get some flexi pipes made up from caliper to bulkead (unless anyone knows any that will fit, maybe a set of front ones?) then run a line through car to front bulkhead and back into system.

You ditching the abs system then?
I wouldnt go from caliper to bulkhead, id ad a join in the wheel arch like oem, so if anyhing happens its easy to repair/ remove.
Would you not use hard pipes rather than flexy ?
Time is my enemy too, managed 2 hours this week on mine.
 
Not ditching ABS (yet) and I meant bulkhead in the wheelarch, flexi line because the beam moves a fair amount so flexi from caliper to arch/bulkhead, hard pipe interior from back to front.
 
Pretty much 6 months on from the last real amount of work on the car, booked a day off work and dodged the showers to get some actual time on the car:

  • Persistently flat drivers rear wheel/tyre swapped out
  • Handbrake cables attached and tightened up so now the shell has some brakes
  • Rear ABS sensors re-attached
  • Rear brake lines temporarily reattached, enough to get it driving but want to run these through car ultimately
  • Rear beam actually tighted up...I made a boo boo before
  • Engine out from under the shower curtain/builders bag combo keeping it dry on the drive
    • Cat fitted back on
    • New Clutch slave cylinder fitting to gearbox
    • Replaced clio engine specific pipework with twingo ones
Now to dodge the storm tomorrow and hopefully get engine at least back in the engine bay on Friday so its somewhat protected over winter.

Aaand after a few uninterrupted hours, it's back in and 90% connected up. Just driveshafts, intercooler and fuses to go in and fluids, then chasing everything I did wrong can start.

Using clio boost pipe fouls the Twingo coolant bottle so need another solution. 182 rad is also a huge chungus and takes a ton of room away, considering maybe going back to GTT one.
