JANSPEED BOX & DE-CAT LINK PIPES FOR MK2

EXHAUST UPDATE:
I am still reeling from the drive back from greece, but have had word from janspeed re the v6 exhaust.
they have designed and made the exhaust to fit the mk2 v6, also tested and road tested it, the noise level tested at 93- 94db as per the blue book regs (uk specs) this was at 4500 rpm, i feel this is very good as there will be no issues about loud exhausts. they have taken it out on the road and at 70 mph it is very quiet and you can hold a conversation, this livens up around 5-6000 with, as i was told, "a nice growl", i will have to make my own mind up on that one. i have now got to find the time to go down and try the car to sign the job off as ok, then the exhausts will be manufactured. we anticipate 3-4 weeks from the date of sign off.
hope this brings you all up to speed and will let you know when i have been to see them.

Hi Spike,

Would be cool if you could get a video when you go to sign off!

Sounds promising.

Ben
Hmmm, you have never seen any of my holiday snaps.
personally i have not got the time or inclination to vid this, but, if you want to come along and do this be my guest. i am not trying to be negative here but genuinely concerned that i could not make a good enough job of it. this would be worse than no vid at all.
i am planning to be at janspeed at 8.00 am on monday morn, my number is 07889 153352 give me a call if you want to do this.
also, be aware that the exhaust is a low grade development exhaust, so will be visually inferior to the final product.

So, went to janspeed, exhaust all ok if not a little scabby, but as the gent said its a development in poor quality to get the design right. i did take some photos but they are on my phone and need uploading, i just ran out of time. james, i will get these to you as soon as poss.
went for a drive, sounds really good, raspy not loud, and really picks up above 4000. took a mate who stood on the side of the road whilst i did a drive by, he said its no more noisy than std coming towards you but is quite distinct going away, did this about 90 and he said will not attract attention. inside it seems really quiet, better than std until about 4500. not boomy at all.
did a dyno run, hp was slightly up at 209 from my original 207 on tvr dyno but the differences in temp between the days is vast, it was hot down there today, whilst in coventry at tvr it was snowing with high pressure.
did a noise test as per blue book ( 50 cm away from tailpipe, at 45 deg to tail, 4500 rpm) with std system got 91 db, and with the new system got 94 db, so this new system is twice as loud as the std system.
at this point the driveshaft boot split and dumped all the gbox oil out so had to nurse the car back to nottingham slowly after they had refitted the std system.
when i have more news i will let you all know.
pics to follow.

NOW FOR THE REAL PICS.
dont forget this is a development version, tailpipes WILL protude more than this.
james, pics please.

EXHAUST UPDATE:
there is a snag with the new design of exhaust, am hoping to sort the problem this week but janspeed have told me that the only way forward is to take the car back to janspeed and go for a refit, all very well but am trying to get the driveshaft boot sorted at the mo as its pissing gbox oil out, supose i'd best get my finger out, will let you all know what happens when it does.

UPDATE#2
the exhaust is finally in the redesign stage and the car is booked in on the 21st june for fitment and dyno test. the problem i was not happy with was exessive heat in the centre of the silencer, heat = power so lets have the latter. if you see the pics it shows how hot the centre was getting and i was not happy with this.
sorry to all for the delay on this but i have been back and forth to hospital and the 21st is the soonest i can get down there, i am hoping to get there early and get on with it all to come home same day with the car and have descisions made on this, hope you all understand.

Hi Spike,

I think everyone in on this wants it to be right, not rushed :approve:

Looks like they'll be great once finished! [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

Hi Spike,

Did the test go ahead yesterday? Interested to hear the results and if the heat problem was sorted successfully.

EXHAUST UPDATE:
Had a hectic couple of days with the car at janspeed, first off found that the mods to get rid of the heat seriously affected power delivery, so had to redesign to version two then version three.
after a lot of on and offs with the exhaust finally settled on version four.
mk4 is of a scimilar design but is totally unbaffled, it is an absorbtion type that turns the exhaust through 180 degrees in the centre to get rid of the energy, it also incorarates a cross pipe on the inlet, this was missing on earlier designs and that was giving the reduction in torque midrange, i figuerd no one would be happy with that. it is a little louder than i first said but will still pass any mot test, it also has no problems with emissions as the std cats are untouched. as for sound level, i ran out of time so could not get an actual db test done.
now for power figures, it makes about 2-3% throughout the range, and there are no dips, which after the first letdown is a real result.
On the road the car feels great with the sound being quiet enough to speak until you mash the pedal, then rather than the std growl its pore like a louder yowl!, loads of pops and bangs on the overrun but nice and quiet when you need it to be.
the design still leaves provision for two small pre silencers if anyone feels these are needed.
there has been an unbelievable amount of work and cash gone into this now, both from myself and janspeed, far too much to list but three journeys of 400 miles with the clio has been ridiculous, nottm to sailsbury is no joke. but finally in my opinion this is right, hopefully this makes it clear for everyone thats waiting for these.
next stage is to get the jig welded up so the exhaust can be replicated, as soon as this is done i will let you all know.
dyno sheets to follow when janspeed mail them.
