Insurance group?

Does any one know what insurance group a 1.4 N/A gordini fall into?

Ive only tried 'moneysupermarket' so far and im getting quotes around 2500! Although i am 18, but im gettin much cheaper quotes for a gordini turbo, 5 gt turbo etc.

Is there something ive missed out about the 1.4 gordini i have?

i was with fj 30 years ago, I used to deal with peter james(long since gone) they were very uncompetive when i got a quote

Look in the back of Fast Twat magazine and Chavs and there are plenty of adds there for young drivers like yourself and twice disqualified drivers like myself

When I got my license back for the second time I went to a company from the above called Express insurance and got the cheapest quote that I have had in my driving life.£230 tpft but with the extension to drive other cars (but not mine) and the quote was on a 2.0l car.My history was made up of

SP50 3pts 2 week instant ban for 140mph
SP30 3pts
CD10 twice 3pts each
IN10 6pts
TT99 1pts

Might I add that I was a courier before I gave up the working lark.

But those people are worth a try

Cheers guys, i will definitately try some of the insurance companies that you have mentioned; i guess its better to call the insurance companies than getting dodgy quotes online.

i think the problem might also be, is that the gordini n/a is such a rare car compared to the turbo...

Is it, although this is abit off topic i was wondering if anyone has seen my gordini (will post pics later). According to the previous owner, my gordini is Limited Edition. He said that Renault sent some 1.4 N/A gordinis to Alpine to celebrate renault in some way. Apparently its an Alpine edition and mite have been used in some motorsport events?.

Its yellow with wide arches like a Turbo 2 and has got split rims, i think its got a 5 speed box too. It definatley looks special. I bought it as a project car as it needs a full restoration.

Defo post pics today.

Hi intresting pictures Mr GSingh

The engine was developed at the Dieppe factory which is the Alpine factory. All 5 were called Alpine in the rest of Europe and built there too. I have pictures where you can see A310, Turbo 1 and Gordini being built at the factory and then lined up outside waiting to be delivered to their new owners. Unfortunately your car was not a special edition from Renault it's a 5 Gordini atmo which is a rare beast by it self anyway. Whats your chassis number? and on the oval plate next to the chassis plate it should have 1223. A lot of people in the 80's had those bodykits fitted.

Whats the rust like? sills etc.....

Although the car looks in pretty good shape, its got alot of rust . The floors and sills need changing, needs a new boot lid, doors have a abit of rust at the bottom, bit of surface rust here and there, also when i put my hand under the arch (all of them) it returns with rust lol. I wont know how bad it is untill ive taken the kit off. Also ive realised that the car was originally dark metallic blue including the kit.

Chassis Number - 122300A0000598

Have you got any images of a gordini with this kit? Ive searced all over the internet cant find anything.

Partly, there were rust bits everwhere when the car was moved off the trailer onto my drive; also the guy i bought it of left the car under a tree so there was alot of crap on the car. :)

I got my one online through express insurance and it came out at £250 which I thought was great considering but when you get the online quote you give them your phone number and they rang me 5 minutes later telling me they could better it.

That kit came from a company in Aylesbury but I cant remember the name.Stapletons Tyre Services in Aylesbury also used to supply those wheels. If I were in your position I would find an auto that has belonged to old lady O'grady and do a re-shell,if you cant find an auto then a 1227 with very minor mods will save you an absolute headache in the welding department. They can be found and I reckon you could find one quicker and cheaper than what the welding/cost will be.

Great information cliché, cheers. Will look into reshelling, although it would be a good learning curve for me to do it the hard way. :)

You need to weigh up pros and cons of any restoration job, time, skill level, money , workshop facilities, tools etc, before you know it you can spend twice the amount and peharps not as quick as you first thought. Saying that any car of this age will need some tlc at some point even if you spend out in the first place. if it was me i would go for something like this below, still needs a bit of work, but at least you know where you stand, the price could be less than £1800..., GT turbo money but at the end of the day its you personnal choice.
