Thanks guys, still making phone calls to try to get to the bottom of this and find out what actually happened. The HPI company sent me a print out from 2003 and said it had panel damage all around the car apart from roof and no damage structurally and it was when the car only had 2600 miles on the clock... They have no records after 2004.
They gave me the number of the original insurer but when I rang the number to wasn't in use and that was the only number they had on record.
Not sure were to go from here as they said once it had been cat c'd it cant be changed.
Does anyone know any difference ? and would anyone know what price would reflect it being a cat c as I have little experience in this area.

Thanks, "a deflated"
Aaron

I wouldnt be too deflated Aaron, whether its D or C probably wouldnt affect the price or the level of anyones interest - which there is certainly lots of.

Best of luck with the sale.

Is send Steve a PM about Changes on insurance category's from previous accident damage. He went through all this with his old Technical Grey Car

Indeed, Steve got his (now mine) removed from the register by getting it through some stringent checks. It's now restored to full insurance value and shows as 'Condition Inspected' on HPi. Cost him about £275 for this (plus obviously a lot of time, effort and cost to undertake a top quality repair).

Did my link work m8 like I say Autoline do the inspection and reclassify the cat statues to inspected to engenders level of repair , think that who Steve used , they used to remove them all together but now they only reclassify them , but this is insurance approved , but still shows on hpi so when px'ing with a garage it still shows up and most will not still entertain them, but if I was you I would do this and any future buyer will have great price of mind

Yes mate it worked thank you.
He sent me a link to get in touch with them so ill do that and see how it goes, thanks loads for all the help.

I'm waiting on advice from a member who has sought similar non-OEM mesh at a fraction of the price. PM me...

I absolutely have to agree here and say try your local garden centre, I had to replace mine last year as it had been removed by a previous owner, and once painted it is a perfect match. One day I might get round to cutting out and painting a few spare sets to sell but work keeps getting in the way :(.
