idle sensor/ idle prob?

its the dash end and its your problem. throw icv's, ecus, 2 goats and a lama at it, it won;t make any difference until the road speed sensor issue is sorted

do i need to take steering wheel off to get the panel out as i have an airbag! or will it come out without taking if off?

Also i can only just get to/see the white block end of speedo cable plugging in the back of instrument panel, does it turn or something to unclip as it's holding the panel in?

Hi Chris.
This is how I got on to the forum.
See elvis has posted again. but after a few days the idle should settle.
My car is still on the road and gets ragged up the side of the mountains once in a while.
More into cycling at the mo though.
cheers

Mine went to a 1400 rpm idle. But only after being reved over 3000 rpm.

If the ECU is not getting a reading from the speed sensor it goes into an emergency get you home mode that is basicly an 1400 idle. If I shut the engine off and restarted it it went back to normal idle untill it was reved to over 3000 rpm or so.

This may only be on european models.

The fix I found after 3 months was:- The problem started after I had changed a bulb in the dash.

Inside the white plastic road speed sensor on the end of the cable you will find a small black electronic sensor that gets a reading from a magnet on the cable. This had got bent back when I removed the dash. Pushing it carefully closer to the magnet fixed It.

Renault had the car for three days and told me it was the TPS and they had no new ones LOL. Changed the ICV. Cleaned the throttle body. Temp sensors brown and white.

Hi m8,

it sounds very similar to my problem as mine is also bang on 1400rpm, what i'm finding hard to swollow is, if the car is still, i presume the speedo cable is not moving, and therefore not sending any information about movement of the car to the ECU. So therefore you would think the idle wouldn't begin correcting until your moving, compared to now i start the car idle begins as normal @ standstill, and then creeps up to and stays at 1400 rpm.

This makes me think would normal working of the sensor be; even though the cable is not turning the road speed sensor it is still sending a 0 for example rather than a 1, a 1 being sent when the magnet oscilates past the sensor. My point being even though the cable is not turning the ECU is still receiving information and therefore would normally stop the idle from going to 1400rpm.

maybe I need to speak to some bod from Renault France, as i really don't think city motors would even want to know what i'm banging on about!

I might get the dash back out perhaps, as it was working hunky dorey for 2 days after i fitted the new speed sensor!
