Idle high/fluctuating

Yet another nigle with the hybrid, lol. The idle on it is quite high and tends to fluctuate up and down by about 100/200 rpm. It seems to be totally random as sometimes it will idle around 1000rpm with no fluctuations for the entire time I drive it whilst other times it will idle around 1400rpm as soon as the engine is turned on and fluctuate a bit.

I know theres loads of causes for idle problems on these cars so just wondered what you thought it might be?

em, wouldn't think so though I haven't got round to changing the cable yet as I've got exams at uni so don't have much time to work on the car. This is different to what I mentioned with the cable, the car just won't idle properly. Occasionally it'll be fine and idle at 1krpm but usually it goes to about 1400 rpm and hunts up and down by about 100/200 rpm.

I'm just trying to get ideas at the moment and will crack on with trying things in a few weeks when my exams are over.

yeah it sounds like the throttles not closing fully which is why i said see what its like when the change the cable.

ok I'll update this when I get it done, but as I say I reckon it might be a while. Is it pretty straightforward to change or is it one of those fiddly little bastard jobs?

Cable snapped earlier on, knew it was coming and was pretty close to home so not all that bothered. Will replace it tomorrow but just want to check about the routing of the cable. How should it be routed roughly? as I don't think the current one is quite right.

Thanks

Fitted teh new cable a few days ago but the idle is still the same. What I have noticed is that if I have been driving and come to a stop, switch the engine off then on again it will idle at about 900-1000rpm. Sometimes it will stay there for ages, other times it will do stay there for about 10 - 15 seconds and return to about 1400 rpm. In either case though if I then drive even a small distance it will go back to 1400 rpm again.

Would I be right in thinking it may be a problem with the speedo cable earth? As I say its all going on a to do list just now but I'll be having a crack at it asap. If it is the speedo cable what can I do about it - is there an earth somewhere I can just clean up?

i think ive got this same problem. was it only the 19s that had this cable thing or did clios have it aswell, i was hoping to mabey put a clio ecu on to stop this hapening in my r5 gtt, anyone help?

hi there!
I have the same problem with my -92 valver (19). Where is the resistance thingi located, and what does it look like?
I cleaned all the usual stuff, iscv and the throttle body, put new ht leads and plugs and distributure cap, the rotator arm and air filter. Checked all the vacume pipes and everything is in good condition. How can i check that theTPS is working properly?
