Idle drops too low on 1.4 cham

recently ive had to return to driving my 95 1.4 chamade, reason i innitially upgraded (amongst other things) was i had the head gasket done on the cham along with the water pump and timing belt, i skimped on the cost and paid some very sinister mechanic to do the wrok, since i got it back every time im dropping down gears when i put my foot on the clutch the engine idles dangerously low, when travelling in traffic it sometimes dropes so low that it cuts out, it has got steadily worse over time, anyone know what this might be? a friend suggested it may have something to do with the tensioner, any help would be outstanding like a cow in a field...

Also thanks to all of you who gave me insight into the 1.8 problem

really? so i prob shouldnt blame the guy who did the t belt, where will i find the valve and whats the best thing or method to clean it with

sweet, i work in halfords, thats quite convenient, seen it there before sometimes im a little sceptical of products like that, thanks lads

that was my first thought, checked and all seems in order, its quite baffling really, would the fact that it is slowly got worse mean anything? it does seem to chugg a bit more when idling which would point to tb problem, also ive noticed that in the last few days she seems to be guzzling more and more juice but i might just be imagining that
