How (not) to make your Dauphine Handle

Irritating things:
This list seems to grow daily, must be my age. About 10 years ago we bought a huge LaZyboy Sofa (for the Boss to recline on) It's one that weighs about 3 tons and has to be dismantled to fit in your door.
The feet on it are pathetic, guaranteed to wreck your carpet very quickly.
Thus
IMG_20240213_150904519_MFNR.webp

This means you have to stick on extra feet to prevent said damage.

IMG_20240213_150856278_MFNR.webp

Coz of the small area to stick on they don't last long. I had the brainwave to use 3m trimtape which lasted months instead of weeks but eventually one came off and glued itself to the carpet and required surgery to remove!!
I decided to try to bolt the whole lot together and discovered the washer on the plastic slider is hardened and not bonded to the plastic as well as it might be, also the bolt is M7X1 !! a real Dick move by whoever made it.
With the Red mist descending I headed out to the workshop to find a solution. Found a bit of 50mm nylon 66 and set too........

IMG_20240213_152327884_MFNR.webp

Had to make 11 of them, that's right 11, biggest pain is notching the bottom to clear the other frame bolt which is why it had such stupid small feet in the first place............
Why is nothing simple, or is it just me...........................

New Project inbound and not a settee in sight.....

We had those sticky things on the feet of our furniture, the sofa guy left his bag of things so I took full advantage, it was fine on carpet, we now have hardwood flooring as we moved, it’s not so great, when you sit down you slide all over the place, it’s like living on an air hockey table!

Pulled them off now but they do need better feet, I’d attempt to do something similar but would probably end up with no feet as I don’t have you skill and talent 🤣

Simple things:
I'm a simple Guy who likes simple things. I am now going to have to re- learn, living with a full race engine again.
It's ok, but there are rules which cannot be broken.
You have one chance to start it from cold, and one only. The small race battery isn't a great help, but actually, it makes no difference.
I was very adept with the 8G in the end and this is going to be similar, I think. You switch on prime it with two 1/4 pumps then take the throttle just off the stop and start. Anything else results in no start and fouled/ wet plugs.
As I don't have power where the car resides I have decided to carry spare plugs, so I can swap them out if I get it wrong.
Half an hour made the following which will keep them handy and secure,IMG_20240216_111347512_MFNR.webp
No more walking up and down the street cursing, well maybe...

Silly Things:
My Mid life Crisis started very late, but is progressing well and has resulted in this

I always thought I was not quite right on here, having a Renault without a Turbo, but now I've got a Turbo that's not in a Renault, 2 out of 3 ain't bad.
Stay tuned for More trouble as it happens.......
It's a nice Straightish, Honest old Landy with a Galvanised Chassis. Plan is to Get it on the road for Mar 1st Give it the big Service and evaluate. The Tyres are very special in the wet above 60.. Not in an entirely good way.

I too have been looking at the 90 defenders. My ideal is a remus one EX MOD.

I think you’re right at home here Steve, I was an interloper without a Turbo Renault after the gtt went and downgraded to a campus. Balance was restored with the Clio but I too have a fascination with old landies due to my uncle running a business repairing, servicing, restoring and buying and selling them before he retired. It would be a Tangi for me just because why not!

Back to Renault for a Moment
Did this sketch for Paul Errington, then realised that this is very important for anyone with an 8, 10 or Alp and who wishes to play around with engine options (you know who you are) These cars are funny in that there is a step down/step up gearing arrangement in the throttle mechanism. |You must incorporate it into any modifications you wish to make or else you are only getting 2/3rds throttle max

R8 Throttle linkage 001.webp

There is no room at the pedal end to be creative there, so the 2 options on throttle levers needs to be adopted to get it to work correctly.

Hi Steve,
Nice Landy, Do I presume that you might be painting it 418 blue with 2 white stripes?, and maybe changing the Diesel motor to a 7 litre Yank V8 crate motor that would make it perform a little better.
Best
W

A cautionary tale, again.
Bought a new slave cyl for the Landy £12 no complaints there

IMG_20240219_140417372_MFNR.webp

Decided to take it apart to check the lubrication situation and you guessed it."drier than a Witches titty" unbelievable. This has now been remedied, but how long it would have lasted in service is anybody's guess. If you are buying any new hydraulics check them before fitting....

Straw poll time here Guys
Do I put the landy bits on this thread as a rolling stream of consciousnes? Or do I start another thread in the non Renault Section? It may prove to be a lengthy tome, if it's a Keeper.
Thoughts.....

More Rubbish, and I mean Rubbish.
The Wife's Duster threw a fault light and went into limp mode, after checking the basics, with no luck, I had a word with my Renault Tech friend , who services the Duster for me - Long story short - he suspected the DPF pipes at the back of the turbo, he has seen a lot of spit ones recently
Well surprise surprise
IMG_20240308_201452404_MFNR.webp

Why make a Pipe that's not keen on heat be part of the Exhaust system

IMG_20240308_201512399_MFNR.webp

Why do stuff like this. It does not add any Kudos to their non existant reputation in the first place. Real accessible place too .. Someone someplace needs a good hard kick in the Stones Methinks.......

Yesterday my friendly courier arrived with a Renault 17 gearbox for a refresh. Alarm bells started to ring when I could not get it to turn, I started to strip it , cuz there's only one way to know for sure.
I guess there must have been about an Egg cup full of water in it which had wreaked havoc, Damaged crownwheel , gears and killed the bearings .
If you have a spare box lying about , make sure it is free turning and selects all it's gears. Wrap it up well and keep it somewhere dry and away from extremes of temperature. Speaking to the owner and giving him the bad news, it seems it was removed working from a car and dry stored about 8 years ago ............
This was why I stopped advertising a few years back, owing to the state that donor bits were turning up in . I guess every year that passes the bits just get older. Just like me.............
