How (not) to make your Dauphine Handle

Proper laughed at this comment...! 🤣🤣🤣

And the tale about the test drive, John H's face and subsequent half awake cornering shenanigans!! 🤣🤣🤣
We were lucky lads that night. I mean Mike lying in the back in among all the metalwork! Me in front, nobody wore seatbelts they were for Mummy's boys. Like I said the guy who bought the Snoot from Mike was travelling rear seat passenger in a car that left the road and rolled, Bob wasn't wearing a seatbelt and was asleep in the back. The shell flexed the door opened ( very common on cars of the period) and out he went he knocked his head and died there and then, otherwise unmarked.. He was a fun Guy who Drove a 71/2 tonner Flatbed for a local Timber merchants. I remember him managing a handbrake turn with it in the chippy car park!!

I know it is a half hour of your life you are not getting back again, but this clip is worth a watch. The Picture quality is bad, as it's old 8mm . This is the good old days, watch how many proper near misses there are. How no-one actually died is beyond me.
@paule78 at around the 9 minute mark is everything you need to know about having a rollcage with the pillars tied in in your R8 - even if you only want to go to the shops

Clunk Click EVERY trip...............

Edit plus another 8 humped about 31min

Fantastic stories, had some flash backs of my own reading them.

High speed towing certainly isn’t for the faint hearted, never made it to triple digits luckily but definitely had the spider senses tingling!

I will continue the 1001 tales of stupidity from my past, but work has intervened, so I now find myself having to build a Gearbox , Help my Sister get her rental property out of her hair and repair the Dauph at the bodyshop.
Life's like buses, nothing for ages then 3 turn up at once . I actually got the request to bring the Dauph in and the new CWP turned up on the same day after a 15 month wait !! Well the first gearcutter wasted my time for over 10 months, but the bits are here now

IMG_20230323_180123088_HDR.webp

Original bits on the left and new Manufacture on the right. I like removing the protective coating , it's way more fun than popping the bubble wrap

The micro polished surface feels wonderfully tactile
Full Steam ahead tomorrow, plus the Dentist, Marvellous...................

I'm gonna have to ask, whats the cost on having something like that made? Ive got a few bits of UN7 transmission that i'd like to have redone better/stronger.

@DaveL485 No answer?? Did you fall over and bang your head.....In fact are you OK??????????
Flat out here putting the Monte box back together
Renault made about 100 364 Grosse Boite (Big Box) Which is a large case with a big CWP bigger Diff, but still R8 sized gears. Then they took about 12 of them and made the Monte Carlo Box, using the 364 case , CWP and shift mech All the bits that whirl round are different. They sort of Morphed into the 365 Rally set as fitted to the Early 12G rally cars and some A310 4 cyl.
This Particular creation is a Faithful accurate replica of the last Homologation of the A110 Swing axle box as used '72 on. The last and Baddest of the A110 the 1800's (the Famous ones)

You can see how Truncated the Tooth forms are compared to normal Road going stuff. These forms appear on 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the 365 and also put in an appearance in the UN1 box, due to their high strength design
It's all together, The mesh position of the Crownwheel is Quite different to the original, which I'm guessing is the difference in the types of machine used to actually cut the teeth on the bits of metal. This was done on a Gleason Machine, but Renault most likely used the Klingelnberg system which can cut multiples the Gleason machine won't. Gleason Machines do not like working on combined Tooth counts of less than 40, Don't ask Me why, but they don't.
More obscure rubbish to follow.....................

The Big bad Monte-Carlo is finished and ready to go home. It holds the record for the longest Job I have Done for someone who is not Me. Some of my Jobs have to be measured in Decades, but I suppose that's the same for a few on here...

IMG_20230403_192753458_MFNR.jpg

That means there is the original damaged CWP and Gripper Diff to go on the owners `Dedications to the Gods of Speed' shelf at home

IMG_20230403_192833142_MFNR.jpg

Which Finally leaves the Damaged bits that the Bolts coming slack on the Crownwheel chewed up!!!

IMG_20230403_192904910_MFNR.jpg

I honestly Wince every time I look at these bits Such a shame that such rare bits got destroyed in a series of bad luck events
Onwards and Upwards I hope................

Disaster is the Word for the Month and possibly the year here. I am losing my Workshop/ store and don't really have a plan B. The last 3 weeks have been a frantic search for places to put stuff , so Far I have it all covered on a Temporary basis, but as to the longer term who knows.
The Dauph is now ready to paint in the bodyshop, then I have to get it back to the workshop and put it all back together, like it was pre shunt in double quick time. Then flit all my stuff out.
I have had a new store shed built at my house, which will take care of most of the stuff , it went up today, so time to fill it One of my friends has a garage he is not using, so that takes care of the car for a while and a couple of mates have space to dump the car trailer, none ideal, but better than nothing.
Some pics of the welded up dauph ready to mask.
