got my vee insured today the car is kept over night in a garage with 24 hour security it has a tracker fitted im 46 years old held full licence for 26 years with no points also have psv licence... 15 years no claim bonus no accidents or claims.. 3000 miles per year mileage cap on car ..and its still costing me £741.... :(

Did you try Hagerty? I find their classic car policy quite good.

1,500 miles per year, agreed value, europe wide breakdown cover, with both my wife and I as named drivers. Car is garaged in a gated compound. Cost £370.

I'm 26, full no claims bonus, 0 points, car parked off the road on driveway . . . . . . Big breath . . . . . . £1965

I'm 48, 27 years full licence, a £15k total loss fault accident in 2010, nil no claims, parked in back garden overnight, 5000 miles pa, and paid £650 on Admiral multicar. Was £860 without the multicar.

Oouch! I'm 26, 6yrs ncb, no points etc. 3k miles, £400ish Admiral. Same as it's been the last couple of years. Will get about £100 back too when it comes off the road in Oct.

i call admiral for a quote to add the vee to my multicar policy they quoted me £1150 thats with 15 years no claims & on my multicar policy.....

90% is about postcode, can only assume yours isn't a favourable one! (Not insinuating that it's a rough area) on the flip reverse, Aberdeen is one of the cheapest places for insurance and it is...a categoric hole!!!!

31, 8 yrs NCB....Agreed Value & Mods declared...LOW post code....£450 (Quote me happy this year) :approve:

Insurance costs comparison

You need to get a view of the motor insurance ratings tables (massive pdf doc - obv not available to the public) to understand how and why prices are arrived at. With this knowledge there are a few legal ways to knock good amounts of cash off.

True.

Just would like to add that Hagerty's Classic Car policy also gives discounts if you are a member of a car club (e.g. v6Clio.net).

The Vee is insured along with another car (a LHD German import) that is valued at 5 times what I paid for my Phase 2 in August 2011, and the premium for that is £570 on an agreed value, limited mileage policy with breakdown cover included at o extra cost.

Of course come renewal time it may all have changed, but I have been with Hagerty for the last 4 years and I haven't found anything to beat their renewal prices (+ over the phone negotitions once the renewal drops through the letter box). I was with Asset Trust Group before that but changed to Hagerty when Asset's renewal policies meant that Track Days organised by the Porsche Club GB were no longer covered.

Simple as that its postcode that matters most. I changed all the variables last year garage, on the drive, points, no points etc and the only thing to significantly change the quotes was postcode. Its not only the actual crime rate or insurance claims made (car, housing etc) in the area but also the amount of fraudulent claims. Some which people get away with and some people get caught out. The area might be a nice area but the increased amount of claims (real and fraudulent) will make a postcode area seem worse than what it actually is. ie a high claim area so naturally premiums go up.

The quotes when changing postcodes went from £550 to well over 2k!!

NCB makes a huge difference for the first few years but after certain amount of yrs it makes little difference thereafter.
