put my engine back in all is done starts up but then idles at 4000 rpm any1 got any ideas why????

yeah i found it the side of the inlet above the alternator belt sensor was missing only when i turned it off this time it made a funny noise and now it sounds like it wont fire up???

Just changed my loom on mine and mines doing this.

When i started it up first it went straight to 2,500rpm then after abit it went to 4,000rpm.

What Vaccum pipe have i left off?!

now it wont start at all il post a vid 2moz bit of smoke did come out of the inlet aswell cant be good

Oh shit - doesnt sound good?! :?

Did it struggle to run without the aid of a little throttle?

yeah i know it started fine b4 i found the leak but just reved at 4000 but the the last time i turned it off i made a dogey noise now it wont start i have found the vacum leak it was a sensor missing off the inlet manifold but it sound like it burnt soemthing out heres a vid anyway

yeah brand new belt brand new tensioners all timed up spot on and at tdc plus if it was the timing it surely it wouldnt of worked b4 i found the vacum leak???

it was on the left handside of the inlet manifold above the alterantor there was a sensor missing so i took it of my old inlet and plugged it in and conncted it to the loom

I was just suggesting it in case the belt slipped or something and sent the timing out since it last ran hence it not starting

Does it run if you remove the sensor you plugged in again?

nope i am gunna take the cam cover off 2moz and have another look at the timing but i am sure this was alrite update 2moz when it stops raining

That really doesn't sound right...

Have you checked timing/cambelt?

you were right dude  the cambelt had shredded a couple of teeth and was out must of done it up to tight or something nevermind at least i know i can sort it now

Glad to help mate, just hope it hasn't done any damage

Report back and let us know how you get on :)

yeah i fooking hope so too well i taken the old belt off now just gota put a new one on and hope all the valves are ok :( sound for the info dude

If the valves are ok, you should count yourself lucky that belts cost almost nothing compared to a new engine. I hope you don't put the new one on too tight. It really should be tight enough to twist the belt about 90 degrees. The last belts I did were OK until I removed them again myself.

Look at the bright side, you're not wasting money at the garage and learning too

in my opinion always use a gates belt..

there the best i've ever used and supply loads of oem..

belt should twist though 90 degrees on its longest straight run only..

also check the pulleys as there a right twat and can catch the head the cover etc and come loose all causing the symptoms you have here
