Help............. Finding TDC

Evening all,

I'm on the final stages of re-assembly after doing my headgasket.

I've got the Haynes, where it mentions a mark on the flywheel as demonstrating when the flywheel is a TDC, however I just can not find it. Doesn't look like it's there at all.

Is the Haynes talking bollocks, or will it defo be there? Any alternative methods?

Thanks!

Joe

Only on the 1.7 engines
The haynes also refers to the correct way to find TDC via the locking pin hole just behind the oil pump /redundent dizzy drive,
If you have the head off remember to clamp the liners down before turning the crank & TDC is when #1 piston is at the top

Head is back on now, was super carefull not to move anything whilst the head was off so no problems there I hope!

I think I read that bit, a dowel through the hole into some kind of balancing holes in the crank. Will give it a go!

The mark is usually there, well, has been on every flywheel i've needed it to be anyway, on the front face of the timing teeth... it's really hard to see when you're looking into the bellhousing. If the head is off though, you just need to get No1 piston at the very top of its travel.
