GROUP BUY: Recaro Pole Position Custom Lower Side Mounts

By looking at the photographs provided, it is not as easy to lower the rails for the sportster seats. As there is only one mount between the sliding rail and the seat unlike the 2 on the recaro pole position seats. There isn't much more room left to lower. Can you check the distance between the underside of the seat and the bar which is used to adjust the seat backwards and forwards? Just to see how much I can lower by.

Having a rough guess I would say that these rails would be costing in and around £250-£300 plus p+p which would include design, laser cutting, material, folding, fabrication etc.

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
Jonny

The only other thing I'm gonna start looking into now is potentially reducing the length of the seat belt receiver stalks because they are sticking out so much now the seats are so much lower. They tend to stab me in the side/back when I get in the car.

I don't anticipate it being easy to do in fact I'm guessing its nigh on impossible to start messing with something that's attached to the seat belt pretensioner.

What are your thoughts Jonny? Do you have the same prob?

Yea mate I have the same problem, that's what happens when you lower the rail so much and there is only s much you can lower the seatbelt pretensioner bracket. I am not sure if the pretensioner could be shortened, I would doubt it but could possibly be looked into.

I just hold the seat belt latch out of the way before getting in. Then its all worth it once in position :)

Hi Johnny,

I've taken pics of the mount heights, i can't take an exact measurement of the distance between the adjustment bar & seat as it's all currently removed from my car & in bits. But looking at the measurements i can see there's an inch or thereabouts that could be taken out & still give clearance.

I also use a full harness for my seat belt, so personally don't actually need the seat belt tensioner as the only part of it I use is the mount point bolt. So in harness belt situations I am thinking the small bracket holding the mount point could be dispensed of completely & the mount bolt placed directly in/on the bracket, as the smaller side mounted bracket where it's currently placed is the same material & thickness as the large bracket.

For those who need to keep the tensioner i think a little bit of lateral thinking needs to be applied as there is very little room to cut down the bracket & leave space for it. Maybe extending the small bracket out a little & creating a slanting top edge to the small mount bracket?

Anyone got any ideas?...also does the seat belt tensioner control the normal seats side airbag & the steering wheel bag, or is the steering wheel bag set off by a crash sensor somewhere in the front bumper area ?

As for the cost Johnny, well it's steep but i appreciate the amount of work/fabrication & materials that could go into this, so I am ok with it.

Thanks for the pics.

I am willing to spend a bit of time in the design end of these to get it right for you guys.

With regards to the seatbelt pretensioner bracket I would be designing all brackets the same to keep costs down.

If I could get a rough guide of numbers then I can have a better idea of price. obviously the more people interested the cheaper for everyone.

I would put a cost on 5 or less sets of £250 + p&p, and if more than 5 I could get the price down to around £220 + p&p.

Thanks,
Jonny

Johnny,

Mine are for a LHD as can be seen in my pics, you ok for doing both RHD & LHD brackets?

If so, would if be helpful if I shipped mine over to you for reference ( now they're out of the car )?

Cheers,

Jim

yeah totally, its not a big problem. the pros totally outweigh the cons! :-)

Thanks for the message jonny,

Please add me to the list.
Price is fine.
I have normal seatbelts and the lower the better (not good with all the above technicalities so thought to add that)

I think the LHD brackets will be the same at the RHD brackets. Cant see why they would be different mate.

Yea that could be a possibility if you don't mind and I could post them back when I am sending your brackets. I take it you don't need them for a few weeks?

Please keep all other correspondence with regards to the Sportster Rails in the other group buy.

Matt I will add you to the list now.

Jonny

Can these Recaro Pole Position seat mounts still be obtained?

How much are they?

How much lower than the standard V6 seat are they?

Thanks

Anyone else interested in a set of these custom lower rails as i am ordering a set for another member at present.

PM me if interested as price will not be the price stated for the group buy as these will be one off's now and not ordered in a large batch.

Thanks,
Jonny

Sorry to dig up an old post everyone!
