GROUP BUY: Recaro Pole Position Custom Lower Side Mounts

Jonny

New Member
So i finally got around to fitting my custom made rails.

After a lot of measuring and re-measuring and then the design work started to try to come up with the best solution to the problem.

I made a few prototypes to iron out any problems which had arisen. Trust me there were a few lol.

Basically i removed the Recaro side mounts and the mounts which fix onto the existing rails and replaced these with one bracket.

Here are a few pictures of the brackets before the seat was fitted.

I also tried to take a shot of the difference in height between the original recaro side mount brackets and the custom made brackets with the seat fitted.

This is what they look like with the seat fitted.

Passenger brackets also fitted.

They now sit a lot lower than the standard brackets, much more head room.

Overall this is one of the best modifications which i have done to the vee. The Pole Position seats really are fantastic but i have not got the best out of them until i lowered them.

Any of you who have the Pole Positions on standard brackets will know how high you sit on the standard brackets.

Using these custom made brackets i have lowered the seat around 4-5'' i could go another 1'' lower although i would have to adapt the handle which you slide the seats with.

Overall a great mod and would really recommend it. It was worth all the hard work and effort :)

I am now offering these as a Group Buy, the cost will be £100 plus £10 p+p so a total of £110. This will be for 2 pairs of side mounts which will be fabricated from 3mm mild steel material, primed in a matt black finish so you can paint in whatever colour you wish.

The only difference between these and the standard Recaro rails is that i use an M12 bolt for fixing the seat belt to the new frames. I will supply the M12 bolts for these.

I will run this group buy for a couple of weeks and then start to process any orders.

Not too sure mate, i know they use the same sliding rails but i am unsure as to the width of the seat and the hole centers on the actual seat.

I'll take a look at the width & hole fittings & let you know.

For now, keep me on the list.

Cheers,

Jim

Jonny, I don't want to take this off-topic...
but could something similar be fashioned to lower the OEM seats?

So, do these just bolt directly onto the original Renault runners ????

If so could you let me know the distance between the seat mounting holes/slots as I might be interested if I can fit a seat I have in mind.

Looks like there is a bit of play due to them being slots, so a min/max would be fantastic if you have the time to measure.

Many thanks Jon,
Hoogi

The only problem with the OEM seats is that they are mounted underneath, and the Recaros being lowered is achieved by modifying the height of the side mounts. So I'm guessing it would be a bit tricky with the OEM's?

I've never looked under tbh. My problem is that it would be sacrilegious to ditch ID OEM seats for alternatives.
I got to drive a 928 GTS and the Vee back to back the other night, whilst the Vee was much better fun - the upright seating position remains a major let down.

Incidentally, I'm waiting to hear from Jim about the CS compatibility before joining this Group Buy. : )

Yea they just bolt directly onto your standard runners. I will get the min / max limits of the holes when i get into work on Monday.

Kett, I think it would be a completely different design as Dan says the Recaro Pole Positions use a side mounted bracket and basically you can remove one of the side brackets and drop the seat lower, with regards to the standard seat, as these are mounted using fixings points underneath the seat it would be more difficult. Although i know there is a company who does do an Ultra Low rail for the standard seats. Cant remember who though.
