GROUP BUY: Recaro Pole Position Custom Lower Side Mounts

Craig, do post up some pictures of the seats once you have them fitted. Trust you went with these custom mounts, rather than read-made sub-frames? If so, good choice..........

I know I keep banging on about these brackets, but it's simply the best upgrade ever... It's like driving a different car!

Bloody awesome job Jonny... Well done!

Was it easy enough Dan?
I think by the looks of things my biggest problem will be removing the standard seats.

Hi Craig, yeah it was straight forward enough for me, I suspect if you are swapping out original seats though, it might be a case of getting under the car, remove trays and undoing the OEM seat mounts. I can't remember if you can get to the rail mounts inside the car with standard seats fitted?

Definitely an under the car job.

Will be giving it a crack from early tomorrow morning.

It's very easy, just a bit of a pain doing it without a proper ramp.

It might be very easy for some, but for me (very much mechanically niaive) was impossible so I have aborted the mission for the second time.
Got the car jacked, on axel stands, under tray off and had no idea how to get to the inner fixings (outer looked to be easy enough).
The axel stands weren't high enough to give me manouverability, so if I try again I need to get it on a ramp.

However, I think I am perhaps stretching myself too far here so will likely see if I can get a local garage to get it up on a ramp and swap the seats and fit the quicksilver exhaust.........will make some calls Monday.

Inner fixings are tricky but not impossible to get to Craig, you just have to manoeuvre round some pipe work. You just need some long thin sockets and a longish extension bar with a ratchet and bobs your uncle. If you were nearby I'd help you!

I would have likely persevered longer had I been standing, but on my back was really getting nowhere so packed it in - had to go and buy the wife a new car.

Will get a local garage to tackle it I think.

Here are some photos I took of my install, and the brackets which I had stove enamelled:

They look very neat! I'm trying to compare the height to mine but can't from those pics.. The shoulder supports on my seats are parralel with the bottom of the window...

You will absolutely love the seats now that's for sure!

Does anyone know where to get a pretensioner cover/gaiter?
I have been searching to no avail.

It could be that the pretensioner won't be visible due to the width of the seats, so a cover isn't required, but thought it would still be neater to get a cover of some kind.

Colin, I'd say they are very comparable to yours, check out the height of the seat compared to the gear shift housing

Craig, give Capital Seating a call and see if they'll sell you them separately, I think they came with the genuine Recaro mounts, but I can't remember!?! alternatively you could probably have some made up very easily/cheaply. You might find they look a bit messy without a cover of some sort. There are quite a few wires cable tied to them.

Was going to try Capital.
Nothing on their website, but worth a try.
Failing that my mother is a whiz with a sewing machine!!!!!

Craig,

Capital seating supplied these as part of the group buy when I ran it a few months ago. They should have a few spares parts lying around.

Get the custom rails fitted and then you can really enjoy driving your vee :)

As Dan says its like driving a completely new car..

I tried Capital Seating Jonny and they weren't able to provide me with them, nor tell me where I could get a set from............

Car is booked in to get the seats and OMG fitted on Friday 23rd, so i will report back after it's done.

Cheers

Hi Johnny,

So, I got round to getting my Sportster out plus the brackets, see pics below;

First thing i notice is the bracket nearest the gear & handbrake tunnel is significantly lower than the opposite side, other thing is that there is a mounting point on the bracket to secure the sealt belt holder/tensioner.

Looks to me that some height can be removed from both brackets but not a huge amount, say about an inch, not much but as we've seen with your other mods it can make a huge difference in the driving position.

Take a look & let me know what you think & if anything can be done to help out us Sportster owners, as i've already mentioned, i'd be willing to pay good money for a solution. :salut:

Cheers,

jim

p.s other pics are available, i just uploaded a few for the time being

The only other thing I'm gonna start looking into now is potentially reducing the length of the seat belt receiver stalks because they are sticking out so much now the seats are so much lower. They tend to stab me in the side/back when I get in the car.

I don't anticipate it being easy to do in fact I'm guessing its nigh on impossible to start messing with something that's attached to the seat belt pretensioner.

What are your thoughts Jonny? Do you have the same prob?

Nice Jim,

An inch lower would be great, shame more is not possible.

I also have decent money waiting if any one can help out the sportster owners.
