GROUP BUY: Recaro Pole Position Custom Lower Side Mounts

Hi Johnny,

I'm not a fabricator but they look quite simple brackets, with only one set of mounting holes for bolts ( unlike the variable side mounted pole positions ) & as they have the mount of the seat on a ledge welded at right angles to the sides I thought that could be cut off, the side cut down & the ledge re-welded back on.....tho I may have a simplified that somewhat !.

Sounds like if its possible you'd have quite a few people taking you up on it.

Appreciate you thinking it over & in the meantime ( next week ) I'll get some better pics ( i.e not upside down iphone pics ) up of the runners in situ.

Cheers,

Jim

Wow, if what Jim is asking is possible I would be first in line Johnny. :approve:

Our Sportster are way too high, I know of a few others on here that would also be intrested.

Fingers crossed [cmilie=iconcheers.gif]

Did Recaro employ a midget to sign off these seat brackets?!? Why do we all have the same problem with their product?

I'm about to fit my pole positions with new brackets tonight all being well! I'm well excited!

Well I feel over-scaled from reality when I drive the car, its probably the worst seating position of any car I have ever driven.

I am 5'10" and feel like I have to stoop to see out the windscreen. :s

Yep, totally agree, I'm 6ft 1" and I feel like Donkey Kong driving my car! :-)

Im About To Fit Trendlines With Recaro Bought Subframes.
Will I Have Height Issues With These Seats?

Hi Jim,

If you can get me a few good photos I will go from there and see what I can do, obviously the more people interested the cheaper the brackets will be. What would people be willing to pay for these to see if its even worth my while starting to design something up?

Look forward to getting some feedback :)

Glad everyone has now received theirs from the first group buy and I hope you enjoy driving with them in. I didn't get the good out of my pole positions until I had these fitted. The difference could not be put into words. I now enjoy driving my car again.

Thanks,
Jonny

Just fitted mine tonight... Only just finished at 1.15am and haven't driven it yet, but sitting in the car and just reversing it out of the garage, I can tell I'm going to fall in love again with driving this car!!! The seats now feel absolutely fantastic!

Just got a few small tweaks to make, the micro switch on the drivers seat rail snapped off its rivet when removing the old brackets, so I need to rivet that back on.

Ali, when you come to fit yours, a couple of tips..

To get to the 3 mounts on each side of the transmission tunnel, I undid the small fixings that hold the plastic transmission shroud/handbrake cover in order to move it and get enough leverage on the mounts with a spanner.

I set my seats on the lowest mounting holes, but make sure you push the seat right back in the lugs, to give the seat lever/adjuster enough clearance to move. It's still tight, but enough to operate it.

Oh and if you still have the drivers seat micro switch installed on the runner, watch you don't snap it off like I did!!

Hey Johnny,

If you're gauging interest in doing them then I'd certainly be up for paying as much as the pole position mounts you fab'd.

Jim

I know I keep banging on about these brackets, but it's simply the best upgrade ever... It's like driving a different car!

Bloody awesome job Jonny... Well done!

They really are mate. You don't realise the difference they make until you drive your car with the standard side mounts and then with the custom side mounts. It really is like driving a completely different car. Feel like your diving a go-kart as you are sitting so much closer to the road lol.

Glad you are pleased with them :)

Need to pop up and see your car at some point!!

No bother Ali.
Once I get the seats in, then I'm going to give the Quicksilver exhaust a try, see how loud it really is, then I'll be done.
Maybe get an Aberdeen meet organised late August, early September????

Was it easy enough Dan?
I think by the looks of things my biggest problem will be removing the standard seats.

Hi Craig, yeah it was straight forward enough for me, I suspect if you are swapping out original seats though, it might be a case of getting under the car, remove trays and undoing the OEM seat mounts. I can't remember if you can get to the rail mounts inside the car with standard seats fitted?

Definitely an under the car job.

Will be giving it a crack from early tomorrow morning.
