Gearbox leaking

I have a leaking gearbox, and sump. But hoping to replace the sump gasket successfully for once. Which leaves me with the problem of the leaking gearbox. It doesnt appear to leak much, but with the car on axle stands the gear oil is dripping from the bottom of the bell housing.

I've got bad 1st gear judder. Both engine mounts where worn, changing these at the mo. But need to sort the oil leaks as I'm trying to eliminate the judder once and for all.

I also need to replace the speedo connector in the box with one I have from a spare unit. So I need some advice on stripping and sealing the box once I've removed it, I've already had it apart once but didnt change the oil seal

my geabox leaks too, from the casings joint along the centre bottom, ive never had a gearbox apart so not sure how difficult it is to seperate but my plan was to enquire at a refurbishment company to see if they can supply me a gasket or buy some gasket paper and make my own and have a go at fitting myself to seal it back up,,( renault told me gaskets no longer available).

ok, maybe this is a bit obvious, but i'll say it anyway.
take one tube of rhodorseal / thixopaste /mastixo from renault.
drain the gearbox.
then with a sharp stanley knife, run at a 45deg angle along the bit thats leaking. then run along it from the opposite way at 45deg, effective cutting a V out of the current sealant.
spray all the area with carb cleaner and wipe/repeat till its not oily anymore
then with the new sealant, run a bead along the join that you are trying to seal.- then push it into the join with your finger by smoothing it over with your finger.
then add another line of sealant over the top, but this time only spread it over the area with your finger.
wait till the sealant dries
then add the oil.

it's worked on a gtt box and a turbo2 box, and saves having to remove it.

failing that - gordini singh has taken apart his dini box a few times and used sealant - no gasket.

I too no longer use gasket, I use decent sealant, if its good enough for my golf sump its good enough for an old renault. (VW only supply those gaskets in tubes! )

I';ve had it apart once, and ran sealant down all the edges, then bolted it back together, along with a new gasket still available from renault between the bell housing and the box, filled up with oil, and it leaked a little, although it's very hard to determine where from. But now the sqare speedo connection in the box is knackered, so I may have to have it apart again to replace the end plate as not sure if the speedo grommet will be able to be remove in situ.

But I'm suspecting the rubber seal at the clutch end is needing to be replaced, and maybe also the driveshaft seals? As something is getting on to the clutch to contaminate it and I have to pull off in 2nd gear every time to avoid the engine shaking and destroying the mounts again

marchants renault in kent told me the bellhouse to box gasket was no longer available around 2 years ago, hold your breath if you buy your driveshaft seals from renault (wheel of fortune prices) last i heard the seals were around £50 a side, guess ill use the thixo method my box is coming of anyway so ill open and try to get a good seal.
