Evening guys - seems that Renault really don't understand our cars. After servicing my 255
my car developed a rather nasty trail of blue smoke on the way home from the garage.
Took the car to work, put it on a ramp and dropped the cover under the engine only to find
it was covered in gearbox oil. Looked around the box and there seemed to be oil coming
from the top of the box by the breather pipe. After phoning the Renault garage they confirm that
they found the breather pipe was connected back to front (?) and they had adjusted it.
The back of the car was covered in a film of oil and there was smoke pouring from the
nearside wheel arch as the oil dropped onto the exhaust pipes.
I have booked the car in with R-Sport in Wimbledon. Anyone know if this is going
to get expensive? I don't fancy taking it back to a Renault garage and I doubt
I will get the repair costs covered unless they do the work - catch 22.
Gearbox was a bit whiney on the motorway after the service, but fine in town
and no issue selecting gears, so I guess theres no long term damage. But then
who really knows?
Just wondered if anyone had experienced this or had an idea of the likely labour costs to
investigate. Is it easy to get at the box or is it an engine out job?
