Gearbox impersonating a sieve

Evening guys - seems that Renault really don't understand our cars. After servicing my 255
my car developed a rather nasty trail of blue smoke on the way home from the garage.
Took the car to work, put it on a ramp and dropped the cover under the engine only to find
it was covered in gearbox oil. Looked around the box and there seemed to be oil coming
from the top of the box by the breather pipe. After phoning the Renault garage they confirm that
they found the breather pipe was connected back to front (?) and they had adjusted it.
The back of the car was covered in a film of oil and there was smoke pouring from the
nearside wheel arch as the oil dropped onto the exhaust pipes.
I have booked the car in with R-Sport in Wimbledon. Anyone know if this is going
to get expensive? I don't fancy taking it back to a Renault garage and I doubt
I will get the repair costs covered unless they do the work - catch 22.
Gearbox was a bit whiney on the motorway after the service, but fine in town
and no issue selecting gears, so I guess theres no long term damage. But then
who really knows?
Just wondered if anyone had experienced this or had an idea of the likely labour costs to
investigate. Is it easy to get at the box or is it an engine out job?

Hmm, seems like they put too much oil in it.
First of all drain the box, there shouldn't come out more than 2.3-2.3 liters. Probably they filled it up to the fillerplug, which is way too much and will come out on top.
If it isn't overfill, my best guess is the propshaftseal on engineside.

It is an easyjob to do. If it is the propshaft engineside, be sure to replace the seal the proper way, the seal comes with a white piece of plastic inserted, if it isn't in the seal, just the seal and plastic ring seperated in the bag, don't accept it. It's almost impossible to reinsert the plastic ring without damaging the seal.

Take the plastic ring out AFTER you put back in the propshaft. Leave the plastic ring on the propshaft, or cut it off.
