front shock top mounts

slowly getting jobs done around my car, and one thing really annoys me... under front bonnet the two mounts for the struts are really well corroded... is this a common fault? anyone elses have this? I saw I can replace them with some from Ktec, does anyone know of any other replacements? also has anyone put a strut brace on a Mk1... does it improve the handling any??

They are a "consumable" item so yes, over time, they will wear and need replacing.

The new KTEC top mounts are nicely made and fit well. The older style which is actuall a Compbrake part is not so good.

Mark Fish I believe also has a design for top mounts however...

All 3 are solid topmounts - you will get additional noise, vibration etc transmitted into the car and all 3 will require more maintenance in the form of bearing replacement than the OEM mounts.

If the car is primarily used on road then you probably don't need solid top mounts (they do look nice though) and there's no way that you're (I hope) pushing the car on the road hard enough to notice any flexing of the strut towers so you shouldn't need a strut brace tbh.

I'll get the numbers for replacement originals and keep 'em clean... your right, I have not felt anything too much on the roads... just tidying everything up since I got the car... It is (for me) way more than enough of a car as stock... thanks for the comment.
