Clio Flooks Clio 172 Ring Build

None of you know me except for Adey, My adventure with Renos started back in 2001 when my father bought me my first car, a Mk1 1.2 Prime in white.. With no interest in Renos Adey soon had me fitting rev counters and aftermarket alloys etc! As I got older I started buying 200SX's before returning back to Clios. In 2009 I bought a 2003 172 Cup which I still own now with no intention of selling.

In 2018 I bought another 172 Cup with the intention of keeping it and taking it to the Ring once maybe twice a year, kept it for a short while before being forced to sell it, big regret but did say I would buy another Clio when the timing was better. Which is now.

Last weekend I sold my Navara D40 to make room for a new Navara however I've had to put this on hold for 2 months which has now meant I need the Clio as a daily until my truck comes through from Nissan.

So the car I bought from a friend who owned her for 4 years, been stood up for 12 months and needed a clean inside and out, couple of small jobs to get her running right and an MOT.

Once I got it home it home it had developed a misfire, so chucked in new NGK plugs with leads which sorted that issue out, Considering it's been stood for 12 months the car is very clean, the usual green mould but nothing a jet wash couldn't handle.

I have access to a workshop at home which makes doing jobs easier than having to get a jack out and crawl underneath!

Started off looking into why the temp gauge had a mind of its own, removed the old thermostat to find this :( Thought it was best to drain the system completely and flushed it through several times. Annoyingly the new coolant bottle requires a different style cap which I didn't buy.
Will have to change this at a later time.

Some cheap oil to help flush the old stuff through, Going through my shed of spares I have Castrol 5W/40 along with another Mann filter.

Swapped out the rear exhaust bracket for a cheapo one. Somewhere I have a solid mount that I made up but bugger me can I find it.

Last thing of the day was to clean inside, this is after I hoovered up all the mess. I hate having to sit in someone else rubbish. Took a little scrubbing and came of alright. Didn't take a photo of it before - Was depressing to look at.

Will add some more stuff later, waiting for some parts to turn up now ready for next weekend.

The start of something win @Flook !

If you would have kept your eye on @Adey ‘s adventures you could have picked up one of his cars for a song after he has buggered about with it. I hear there’s a 12 and a Twingo in the offing..? 😂

Keep up the good work mate, look forward to progress!

Well not long after the last post I gave the car to my sister, which last week seen me get the car back. 2 owners later and in slightly worse condition than when I gave it to her!

So this weekend I checked over the car, and got to work on stripping it. My plans for this car have changed since the original post, now going to build a low boost turbo setup and attend some track days when possible.

There isnt much I can do whilst the Cup is on axle stands without suspension, hopefully that’ll be here next week and I can move it out of the way and crack on with this project.
