F7P after performance chip problem

Reno 9

Active Member
Hi all,

My name is John and i have renault 9 with F7P,my lovely engine and i baught a chip from ebay and i put it and from the first test for the car it was really improved but between each gear while i am shifting up,i smell an oil burn and thats only happened after the chip and the engine oil decreases a bit by the time and depends on my running time.

the chip rev at 8000 rpm and i shift at 7800 because it is not running well after that and because i am afraid from the oil burn smell.

so please can any one help me and give me an answer why that happenes after the chip and if he tried this.

I mean is this normal or i have to remove this chip.

By the way i put it on the dyno it gives 118.8 whp,but i have a problem in idleing but the lambda sensor is new.
Thanks,

ok but my question is the oil burn smell normal with the chip because the engine was normal before the chip and also it happend especialy when i pass the stock rev, while changing to the second gear.

I'll step out on a limb here, your engine was not designed to rev that high, at 7800 rpm there are forces within the engine that the seals and rings where not made to handle. Crankcase pressure, higher manifold vacuum, oil slinging, etc. all play into oil going places is was not meant to go. You did not say how many miles [kilometers] you have on the engine, i assume it is not new, so engine wear factors in as well. Any time you push an engine beyond it's practical limits, you will encounter some problems. It is probably sucking oil past the intake valve seals because of the higher intake manifold vacuum. Get it back on the dyno, find it's max torque rpm, and set that as your redline. Going beyond that redline is only doing damage with no gain. Hope this helps answer your question, and good luck with your project!

If you want more power get a faster car. Or keep thrashing it and when you blow it up then get a faster car. My 19s rev limit is 8000 but I never go that far,

Thanks Cvslawrence for your answer and what you are saying is very logic and i accept with you 100 percentage also because my chip is for group n

and the engine in the car is a used one so i can not know how much is the kilometer, the car give out 143 nm on dyno but i can not remember now on what RPM but i have the paper in my car so i will check it soon

Also i bought F7R engine from megane and it is so rare in my country to find and i will put it`s bottom with my f7p head.but i don`t know if the f7r cams can be fitted on the f7p head or not.so if some body can answer me this question too he will help me

You williams cams if keeping the dizzy

I just use 1,8 cams + head on f7r does the job (y)

Take out the eprom chip out the ecu and put a socket in (if you haven't already) then use a williams or other F7R chip

Ok but i think the performance chip do the same job instaed of using williams eprom and while i am going to install the F7R bottom i will buy 278 cams.i think they will give me over 165 bhp
