Exhaust Alignment Problems

Hi all, some of you might have read my post a few weeks ago about exhaust rubber mounts. My car needed 4 new ones as they had all split and perished. I presumed this was why my back box was sitting too low and the tail pipes almost resting in the cut out holes on the bumper, I also think the tailpipes look to be sticking too far out ...

however after fitting new rubbers (not genuine Renault ones!) it's made no difference to the position of the backbox.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing it?

is it possible that the position of the pipes/cat intermediate pipes that connect to the backbox could be out of position that in turn has a knock on effect to the backbox?

I'm a bit stumped and not sure what to try next, but I need to sort it, as the backbox is rattling against the rear bumper and it sounds dreadful.

Also have a look further up the chain as it were at the collector box and the related pipework. Could be that that has dropped slightly meaning the exhaust is forced to sit in the wrong position.

I don't think the exhaust pipes ever sit perfectly evenly in the holes (mine is a tiny bit out) but certainly shouldn't be resting on the top of the bumper :s

Can't be the bumper, there's no adjustment, and I've had the bumper off to fit the new rubber exhaust mounts. Also if the bumper was lower than standard it would have the opposite effect, the tail pipes would be too high.

I think I'm gonna have to take the bumper and back box off again and check the config of the other pipework.

undo the 13mm bolt on the bracket that holds the rubbers on each side and push them higher up to pull the back box up more, they do move if you have a thin extention bar you can do it thogh the rear bumper grills but i would undo the clamps that join the back box the the collecter pipe just so it can move around easier :approve:

hi all, i brought a janspeed rear cat back section for the vee and i thought i had the same problem with the rubber mounts as the right side tail pipe sits lower than the left. so i took the bumper off AGAIN ,,, tried to adjust the mounts but found in the end that the welder who had done the rear box had not lined the tail pipes up hence why one is slightly on the p1ss. so i contacted Janspeed who told me either to bring the car to them and they would sort it but it would mean a 600 mile round trip or heat it my self and manipulate it to were it has to be. havent got around to it yet. i have got the gear to to it . just need more hours in the day so maybe compare and measure pipe differences with a similar vee
