5 GT Turbo EFI - GT Turbo

broken the seal, will more than likely just need re seating and a new seal fitting but id get it checked out and make sure all is still round and true

its in a couple of the shots. Also in the top of the pic it looks like something is embedded in the head, rather than it melting away? there are similar in a few places. Are we sure something hasnt gone through? Is there any chance something in the runners from the porting hasnt smashed through the engine and caused damage where the lease space is between the head and piston?

I guess it's possible Adey, not ruling anything out mate. There were a few bits that had chipped off piston or head as there was a bit of debris in there. Could of been foreign matter I guess.

All a learning curve for me mate as been away from cars for many years. Just need to push on and get it sorted ensuring same doesn't happen again.

I assumed that bit around the valve was from machine work [emoji848]

You might want to strip the head yourself incase a seat, guide or something has broken.

I won't be surprised if you pull a piston out and the top ring land falls off

I do think the pictures are deceiving though as there are parts that I cleaned off so giving the illusion of it's looking much worse. Its going back to CTM Monday and I've asked Charlie to give it a once over to make sure there's no other damage.

Had a closer look at head and that part you highlighted @DaveL485 has been slightly chipped away like you say.

Enlighten me here but what sort of foreign matter could of caused that damage and where could it come from ? To me it looks like it's part of the piston tops that have been bouncing around.

There has definitely not been anything dropped in there whilst working on it as car has been in one piece since rollers apart from changing push rods, possible something was accidentally dropped in without me noticing I guess.

Might be worth taking a look down the ports to see if anything is obviously missing, maybe push the valves out so you can see in the throats a little better? The fact its in all 4 pots makes it odd, i haven't seen any with that bad of damage from det but then i havent got the same experiance as others. My last one that popped the HG was audiable to me before it let go, in the drivers seat and over the noise on the compressor and side exit. You WOULD of heard it if it was detting this much

What do you all make of this ? I looked in the ports @Adey like you said and look at the damage. Looks like valve guide is dropped on this one valve!! Look

As above guide has fallen down and other bits are missing. Hard to tell on the exhaust sides?

Remove the valves for further inspection in my opinion

Well there's one thing that's been through. With sharp bits and edges been added through damage you will also create lots of hot spots. These in turn will start det. Get it in a box/ clean area and remove each part bit by bit and bag it up as you go.
