5 GT Turbo EFI - GT Turbo

A leakdown test will give you a better idea of ring/land/piston condition, if you don't fancy stripping it yet.

Saying that, the tapping noise could be a bent pushrod(s)/excessive valve clearance, and the smoke could be an unrelated turbo issue.

All valid but checked all push rods, in fact swapped 6 out of the 8 for newer straight ones. Valve clearances checked and rechecked and done no more than 15/20 miles ago.

I think I'll just strip down, doesn't take too long.

silly question but how its the crank trigger on your car?

if its 36-1 on crank pulley, was the wheel welded to the pully and was the pulley welded to the crank shaft seal boss? if the wheel slipped a little that'll explain the death

Was welded to the pulley but not the shaft seal boss.

right before you do much more,
Get a dti gauge on the block and bring the piston on cyl 1 or 4 to tdc, have a look at the sensor and see if its still on the right tooth
i recon it might of slipped

Good info Fordy, will do mate.

Been on to CTM who are going to sort head out for me and remove squish areas. Also elongate holes for better push rod clearance. Engine comes out Sunday. Components bought next week when pay day comes round and with any luck engine rebuilt in Jan.
